Just saw a W Mullins interview where he says he was never happy with the horse’s jumping at any point and did not think, from early on, that the horse would win…interesting
December 27, 2015 at 22:30 #1227448Horse would of won easy Joe, don’t understand Mullins at times.
UDS bounced back off the floor and ran past the lot with more zest than a lemon hooch.
Ruby seemed a lot more optimistic and he was riding the horse.Charles Darwin to conquer the World

Drama over, Champion Chase here we go, chip away 7/4
Happy New Year

December 29, 2015 at 00:54 #1227528On form not much between Sprinter Sacre, Sire de Grugy and Special Tiara. UDS much superior to this trio, so betting on him means betting on him having a clear round. Thought he had jumped well enough till the fall
December 29, 2015 at 09:08 #1227546He fell first time out last year. They are saying he was fresh although he wasn’t overly pulling, that run should take the sting out of him, I’d be more concerned for Cheltenham if on the day he got lit up and over ran and got tired rather than his jumping which other than the two falls over fences has been rather sharp.

December 29, 2015 at 12:56 #1227564UDS is still far and away the one to beat and I don’t think SS and SDG are good enough based on the Kempton run (do think SDG would have won but for clouting the last) – remember all the fuss that was made about his tearaway style and jumping going into the Arkle, Ruby was able to (relatively speaking hold on to him) and he was very clever at some of his fences that day.
The only thing you could possibly argue about the ride Ruby gave him was that perhaps on that ground he shouldn’t have been asking him to come up off that long a stride but then again I don’t think he was expecting the horse to go short at the fence either (may be he was starting to get a bit tried at the point being it was his first run of the season) – the fact that he hit the deck two out and he got up and was able to gallop past the leader before the post, tells you he would have won the race anyway.
Personally, I would like to see him rock up to Newbury next for the Game Spirit Chase for a possible clash with Dodging Bullets.
December 29, 2015 at 13:51 #1227565Rich Ricci knows Vautour is a Queen Mother Champion chase horse this season not a Gold cup horse..14/1 wont last after todays questionable stamina lacking performance for 31/4m.TAPK has taken the 15’s on the machine.
There’s some squeaky Bums on this thread now that we’ve seen ‘UDS’ make a familiar howler but worse than that is when the King of foresight says a horse wont win a race he’s 99% right and ‘UDS’ wont be winning this years QMCC.Worser than worse is that come February when me and my mate Rich announce to the world that Vautour will be dropping back down in trip to 2m to contest this years Queen Mother ‘UDS’ will trade as the 2nd fav at 5/2 because ‘Vautour’ will be 2/1 fav.If or should I say when Mr Riccis horse jumps and runs his field ragged in this years big Wednesday race he will be trained for the same race for the next few years. If for some reason he gets beat we all know that the Ryanair is always there waiting. What I can say now is ‘Vautour’ will not be contesting this years Gold cup……Even if anything happens to ‘Djakadam’ in between.TAPK takes no pleasure from constantly predicting such massive outcomes but sadly we saw ‘Vautour’ bottomed at Kempton and he is way too good a horse to do that again to over 31/4m,it would effectively finish this big beauty.TAPK told the world his bubble would burst at Kempton and for every yard over that 3m ‘CueCard’ would gain 2 for every shortened stride ‘Vautour’ took.I havent commented on the King george thread because I have more respect for Joe (Steeplechasing) than ever,he took a kick in the Teeth and what could only be described as his Testicles removed with a rusty chainsaw the way that race panned out for him.Joe was the first to congratulate me on Twitter after the race and to do that marks the man down as a true Gent…If VTC deserves to be Poster of the Year,Joni the tipster of the year,Ginge the Dick of the year,Nath the entertainer of the year,Steve caution the fairy of the year,me the legend of the year (as usual) then Joe is Gentleman of the year and my New years resolution is to meet the man!
December 29, 2015 at 14:41 #1227566The time of the ‘seniors’ race alone tells you that neither SS nor SDG are anywhere near Champion Chase level on that run. Ar Mad was quicker than them at every stage, and neither would have finished in the first 4 in the Novice Chase.
December 29, 2015 at 15:28 #1227569Dodging Bullets in my opinion would beat SDG, sprinter sacre and special tiara around Cheltenham. And he is some way inferior to UDS. UDS if he stands up is a no-brainer. Last year we heard is jumping wasn’t upto it in lead up to arkle. No doubt get the same this year. Same result too I’d imagine.
December 29, 2015 at 16:05 #1227575Ha! Gord, I’ll meet you at the winning post after Vautour has hosed up…in the Gold Cup. Nowt wrong with the big horse’s stamina, just did too much in front and got tired. Ruby says when he got home he watched the race ’12 or 15 times’ to see what he could have done differently, but ‘you can’t ride races in hindsight’ was his conclusion. I suspect that the horse’s stride and athleticism misled him, and he’ll make much more sensible use of him in the Gold Cup. Timeform’s sectionals shows just how attritional the pace was.
The guys I can’t understand are the Paddy Power traders. They went shortest of everyone after the JLT with a 4/1 quote for the GC (8s elsewhere). Yet they’ve fielded against him ever since Ascot. However, the 16s they went after Kempton is now 9s.
Anyway, you are a gentleman yourself for holding back on the KG thread: you were spot on in your call and there are very few who would keep quiet after such a prestigious event. And you’re dead right, gutted goes nowhere near explaining my immediate reaction when they passed the post, but it didn’t take long for me to cheer up, because what I believe to be the two best steeplechasers I’ve seen since Arkle were almost inseparable after a KG lauded by Timeform as one of the best in the history of the race.
Getting back on the topic of this thread, if Vautour does indeed contest the QM, then I’ve backed him for that too, and it will leave the big one at the mercy of Cue Card, who’d be a great result for me. But I’m as confident as you are about the QM that Vautour will go for the Gold Cup.
A final thought; the daftest thing I’ve read since the KG is that Cue Card won’t get the GC trip. That was one of the most stamina-sapping KG’s ever run and the only place he led was the post. He’ll get the Gold Cup distance and more.

Very kind of you to say so Joe,had you been Ginger I would have had to ram it down your throat because to this day it still rattles me that I put up ‘Sunnyhill Boy’ at 40/1 as the National winner of 2012 and he puts up 33 runners and mugs me with the Winner and then gloats like a Pig thats eaten all the Carrots that he picked the Winner.Of course the TAPK of old would have had to tell the world what a judge he is and that he is the King of Foresight and ruler of the Ante-Post Kingdom and Mermaids will straddle my Schlong etc etc….Not a word of it from me now eh?
December 29, 2015 at 17:52 #1227583I have to say there are a few cracking judges of racing on this forum. Hence why I signed up. I usually just viewed as a guest. Hopefully everyone of you’s keep up the good work.
December 31, 2015 at 11:38 #1227758I know he had no jockey on but it was amazing the amount of ground UDS made up after he fell, to pass the post first. I think Ruby would be better off just leaving it to the horse and not asking him up at any fence.
January 2, 2016 at 20:50 #1228186Mullins told Racing UK on Saturday: “Un De Sceaux rode out the following morning with not a bother on him. He is good so I’ve got to find a quick target for him and get him back on the track.”
Mullins should of said – What he should of said is ‘Un De Sceaux rode out the following morning like the beast he is. He is Sceaux good I’ve got to find him a quick target for he’ll win by half the track’…….

January 4, 2016 at 19:45 #1228421Was anything said about Sizing Granite’s woeful performance over Christmas? I had high hopes for him developing into a Champion Chase contender so was bitterly disappointed. I think he’s got to be better than that and while I’d like to know what if any reason was found or given for the display, I have topped up at 66/1 with Paddy Power.
January 5, 2016 at 14:53 #1228504Speaking as someone who’s already got 40/1 Sire De Grugy, am a little concerned about his current 11/1 betfair price. On recent form he’s pretty much the same horse as the current Sprinter Sacre. I know the Henderson horse’s old form is a lot better, but in all probability he’s not that horse anymore. Can understand Sprinter Sacre being a little shorter than Sire De Grugy, but it’s 3.8/1 SS (4/1 with bookies) and 11/1 SDG (top price 9/1 with bookies). Is something wrong with the Moore horse? Or is it the Sprinter Sacre price out of kilter? Because Special Tiara’s 14/1 looks a big price too on form lines between the three of them.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 5, 2016 at 15:05 #1228506Conditions didn’t suit Sprinter at Kempton. He’ll hammer Sire De Grugy at Cheltenham.
