As predicted in the thread for the Christmas grade 1 ferny hollow is out for the season
December 11, 2022 at 08:58 #1626523Mallow passes its inspection, so after a barren Saturday at least we get to see Energumene today.
December 11, 2022 at 09:39 #1626530It’s a poor race , he should win on the bridle , reckon fastorslow will follow him home
December 11, 2022 at 11:21 #1626540He should win this by half the track
I can’t imagine many if these will want to finish within 15 lengths of him with their handicap marks in mind
December 11, 2022 at 11:53 #1626547Fastbutslow is the unexposed horse

This promises to be about as meaningful a “race” at the one Facile Vega “won” the other day for the exact same reason.
What’s the spread on how many collective uses of the whip there are?
Because I counted ZERO in Facile Vega’s race.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 11, 2022 at 13:12 #1626556This is supposedly a grade 2. Has Engerumene scared off the opposition or is this the best Ireland can put up over 2 miles?
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
December 11, 2022 at 20:13 #1626607It was training in public … But that’s because no one wanted to race him

The Shloer was even worse.
Aside from a few in WPM the 2mile chase division hasn’t much depth

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 11, 2022 at 21:17 #1626634The runner up has an OR of 147 and he’s given him 10lb and beaten him 15 lengths eased down.
1/9 favourite or not, it seems a pretty sound seasonal debut to me.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 11, 2022 at 21:17 #1626635It seems to me that there’s simply a dearth of talent at 2m at the minute.
Energumene isn’t by any stretch of the imagination a top class horse but when you look at the market at the minute 7/8 horses after him in the betting won’t even run in the race. The 2nd from last year is 66’s!
I’ll stick up a crazy shout that’s not even listed in the AP market. Shan Blue. Unquestionably has the pace to run in the race and by and large jumps perfectly fine.

Seems to merit his OR of 176 and any Jumper rated 170+ is a top-class horse in my book.

I want to get on early before he bolts up in the Arkle
maybe a Arkle/Champion Chase 2023/24 doubleCharles Darwin to conquer the World
December 11, 2022 at 21:35 #1626638I think Energumene sets a decent standard
Edwardstone will do well to peg him back but I’m happy with 16’sCharles Darwin to conquer the World
December 11, 2022 at 21:39 #1626639Not for me Ian.
He doesn’t jump well, trainer/jockey don’t rave about him the way they do others in the stable they genuinely rate highly and just to my amateur eye I see nothing in his performances to merit a rating so high.
I don’t enjoy laying horses but if I was someone who got into that side of the game he’d be a lay every run for me!
December 11, 2022 at 21:54 #1626641Then you’d be skint
As he’s 10 from 12 under rules
And shiskin is the only horse that’s got near him over fences
Nothing else has got within 8 lengths of him in 8 starts over the larger obstacles, most of the wins being hard held.
I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves personally
Perhaps a 2nd champion chase would see to that
December 11, 2022 at 22:37 #1626642A lay every run from now is what I was getting at Final furlong. The horse wasn’t even on my radar until 18 months ago.
He’s won a champion chase by virtue of his only rival pulling up and the ground being almost unraceable. He might well go and win one again but that’s only due to the fact it’s a 2 horse race.
