Thanks folks, he got away well from a nice draw and didn’t get crowded too much
October 12, 2024 at 16:16 #1709721Winner likely to be disqualified!
October 12, 2024 at 16:53 #1709723Played Grass
October 12, 2024 at 16:57 #1709724Re: winner likely to be disqualified – it’s due to whip rules. Jockey hit him 10 times, 6 permitted. 4+ over merits dsq. Review is to be published Tuesday and Manxman will be promoted if guilty. Seems slam dunk tbh.
October 12, 2024 at 17:13 #1709729Well played green.
October 12, 2024 at 17:15 #1709730wd winners
October 12, 2024 at 17:49 #1709738I did not see the race but just seen Nick Luck and Martin Dixon talking about it on RTV.
If the infringement is as clear as it sounds, then I agree with Dixon that the result should be amended on the day. Why should punters of Manxman lose out?
October 12, 2024 at 18:05 #1709740Disqualification review meeting:
Pleasantries. Meeting begins.
“Jockey has used whip well over the limit”
“Rules in places confirm disqualification”
“Good meeting everyone. Glad we didn’t have to go through all that on Saturday, may have missed our monthly swingers session”
Meeting concludes.
October 12, 2024 at 20:25 #1709751Anything to do with Tony Martin on this?
October 13, 2024 at 05:49 #1709762Well done green with that amazing 50’s place on Magellan Strait and to ham for getting 14’s place Dawn Rising who both carried a huge weight compared to the winner, as did Run For Oscar.
Manxman so unlucky to have gone down by a nose in a tough run race, but lovely to see Ndaawi trot home safely after being eased. He got the biggest cheer. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 13, 2024 at 08:55 #1709767Interesting, will he be disqualified now?, i seen kevin blake show the 10th hit possibly never connected, will be curious to see what the BHA do if thats the case, only thereself to blame for daft rules
Punters losing out regardless though with the rightful winner finishing second and no payouts if hes dqd
October 13, 2024 at 10:24 #1709770Connections will be extremely fortunate if they get away with it. The jockey clearly used his whip/pro-cush with intent. There is no way he intended to just wave it or to miss the horse.
He has already broken the rules by using the whip 9 times. Connections will look a bit hard faced and sneaky if they seriously try to argue the rules have not been broken.
Whether or not the rule is right is a separate issue.
October 13, 2024 at 11:23 #1709781Agree cas, but connections dont need to argue it, the bah will need to decide themselves if that 10th connected or not, if it didnt, regardless of intent or not, he didnt technically use it
They have left this in such a mess with there silly rules that no matter what they decide on tuesday its the wrong decision
October 13, 2024 at 18:01 #1709796From the racing post…
In a statement released on Saturday, confirming Powell’s ride had been referred to the whip review committee, a BHA spokesman stressed no breach of the rules had yet been found, and added: “There have been several cases already since the new rules were implemented whereby a ride was referred and carried a potential disqualification but the whip review committee did not reach this outcome.”
In my view there should be adjudicators/decision makers available or contactable at the time to make the decision. Racing needs to keep up with the times with all the modern technology out there available and not p*ss off the punters.
October 15, 2024 at 13:51 #1709907Alphonse Le Grande disqualified.
October 15, 2024 at 18:17 #1709920“At a WRC hearing on Tuesday, it was determined that Powell had used the whip ten times and that none of the uses were for safety purposes, which would have mitigated the use of the whip”.
So the Stewards on the day, that are clearly capable of counting the number of whip strikes into double figures from watching a video replay of the race (based on the fact they referred the case to the WRC in the first place) but can’t then be relied upon to determine which strikes were or were not used for safety purposes and thus rend a decision there and then?
The WRC meets twice a week but with the advancements in technology surely they can be made available to preside at meetings (even if it is just the big race days) either in person or remotely to speed this whole process up to get a ruling on the day and not days after – this seemingly was as clear cut as it gets, as I did catch the tail end of Lydia Hislop on RTV reporting that she had a brief chat with Jamie Powell as he was leaving and he agreed that there was no doubt that he had used the whip 10 times.
How many times can this sport continue to shoot itself in the foot (we surely must be running out of feet by now) over things like this.
October 15, 2024 at 18:23 #1709921What an absolute farce that this could not have been decided on the day it required little debate. Does this happen in any other sport that three days after the event they decide oh by the way you aren’t the winner anymore.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
