Just love this race, and one where I love an early go.
This time last year, my early fancies were Cleonte and Theglasgowarrior, and this time around they’re of interest once again. Life will certainly be tougher for Cleonte off of his current mark, but he’s a good animal, and can’t be discounted. Theglasgowarrior bounced back to form last time, and he’d be the definite preference of the pair. Only 2lbs higher this time, and with a slight tweak of the tactics, then I think he could run a massive race. I’ve a strong feeling that this has been the sole plan all year.
It was won last year by Willie Mullins, and he also had the runner up with Uradel, who could take his chance again. He’s higher in the weights this time around, but very hard to be too negative about. The pair that really get my attention though are Mr Adjudicator, and Great White Shark. I’m a big fan of the pair of them, and struggling to split them. This race looks tailor made for both, and I’ll be interested in what they open at. If pushed, I’d slightly favour Great White Shark, and I could maybe see me betting her early, but that always fraught with danger from this yard. Nessun Dorma could be another interesting one, and he looks to have been held back with something in mind.
If I do have an early go with an Irish Raider, then it just might be Mr Everest. Fairly reliable type who showed his true colours last time at Galway, and as connections seriously target this race, I would have him as my early #1. He looks very very nicely treated. Big Player.
Dubawi Fifty has been slightly disappointing recently, but he could be overlooked here as a result, and he’s well up my shortlist. Absolutely no surprise to see him bounce back here in a race he ran so well in two years back.
Arrowtown looked to be going places tail end of last season, but not seen since. If all well, he could be a proper dark one.
Last but not least, for now, is Rochester House. I’m interested in him for The Melrose Handicap this week, and a big run there, and it’ll certainly muddy the waters for me in this.
Plenty to chew over then, and that’s merely scraping the surface.
I’ll probably have an early go, once a market is up. I’ll almost certainly bet Theglasgowarrior each way in the lead up, especially if I can get five places, but for my principle hope, Mr Everest, I’ll go by price.
I like all those mentioned, but that’s the pair that strike me the most, with Great White Shark just, and only just, edging it from the Mullins contingent.

Certainly won’t be betting Great White Shark early doors at 14’s, while although I knew she’d be short, the 7’s for Mr Adjudicator is lower than expected.
Mr Everest however, looks too big at 25’s, and I’m close to taking that right now, especially with five places.
I can’t see Theglasgowarrior shortening too much, so I’m as well holding off.
I’ll obviously not go mad this far out, but I do like an early go in this, and I think that looks fair. I’d be disappointed if he didn’t trap here.
Mr Everest 25’s EW 5 Places
August 23, 2019 at 12:34 #1451801Bob which race Darley sun run in as a 3yo before won this race was it Lonsdale cup i ask because i think II PARDISO 25/1 is good price way won last time though weights not out yet so hope if run well today not given more weight
August 26, 2019 at 10:05 #1452203VTC, I like Mr Everest too.
I just wonder how much extra weight the British handicapper will give him?
August 26, 2019 at 11:16 #1452205Actually, looking back on last year’s race he should be fine.
August 27, 2019 at 00:45 #1452227Like the look of True Self myself now Jeff, good luck if you go with her.
August 27, 2019 at 00:46 #1452228Bobby, as you say, I think he should be fine, and at 25’s, I think he’s a cracking bet. My main worry is that he takes in The Irish Cesarewitch, but hopefully he ends up here.
August 27, 2019 at 00:52 #1452229Nice write up Bobby

I really love this race too but don’t want to wish it here too soon as it heralds the end of the flat season.
However, by putting up the AP prices, you made me look and there is one horse down to run that caught my eye in the paddock at Newmarket on Saturday looking amazing and every inch a Cesarewitch type and that horse was Mark Johnston’s
Themaxwecan
33/1
He is just a 3yo but is a strong good looking long bodied type by Maxios son of Monsun and bred by the Niarchos Family. He was beaten but staying on by Saroog a 5yo giant of a horse by Nathaniel who also holds an entry for this and is a danger.Mark Johnston won this in 2013 with one of my favourite mares Scatter Dice 4yo who defied all the odds to win it, she is by Manduro another son of the late Monsun.
Themaxwecan has been running well in all the right races to give him a good chance of providing Mark Johnston with his 4th Cesarewitch winner and currently around 33/1 a nice each way bet

August 27, 2019 at 01:12 #1452233Darren, sorry I missed your post.
It was a race at Ascot that Darley Sun win before landing this. What did you think of Il Paradiso.
August 27, 2019 at 01:26 #1452235Thanks Bobby

@darren83
Coincidence Darren that it was The Brown Jack Stakes (2 miles) that Darley Sun won in 2009 as a 3yo before going onto win this race.
Themaxwecan also a 3yo won the same race at Ascot this year, I’ll take that as a good omen.
Best of luckThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 27, 2019 at 10:19 #1452242True Self didn’t look to stay the Ebor so i can’t see her having a prayer of turning up here?
August 28, 2019 at 09:14 #1452266Land of Oz at 33s
As well as Eddystone Rock at 25s look interesting too.
Eddystone is in cracking form right nowAugust 28, 2019 at 09:52 #1452267I wouldn’t be 100% certain 2m2 on the flat is what Mr Adjudicator wants tbh- he’s pretty fast. On the otherhand i’d have it right up Great White Shark’s street, she’s a proper staying mare.
Can see the Mr Everest shout, another i’d be semi interested in is Diamond Hill if she were to run!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!August 28, 2019 at 11:01 #1452271Diamond Hill an interesting one for sure Jack, but I’m hoping that the Irish Cesarewitch is the plan.
Yeah, should be perfect for Great White Shark, and having initially not been mad on the 14’s, the more I look, the more I like.
August 28, 2019 at 14:10 #1452280Eddystone Rock one i have an eye on also Viktor, very unexposed over staying trips.
August 30, 2019 at 02:14 #1452377Theglasgowarrior takes in The Lanark Silver Bell tonight, a race he placed in last year, before repeating the feat at Newmarket.
Not really wanting two at this stage, but I’ll be watching him closely, as some of the 33’s has already went for this.
