Detroit City won first time out, although he may have won a Charity race at Chesptow the previous weekend from memory.
October 13, 2009 at 23:14 #253228and he was aged less than 6; oh dear, now my head really does hurt….
October 14, 2009 at 01:12 #253254People have probably read this elsewhere already, but I thought I’d just add it to the thread as he’s been mentioned in dispatches.
Blue Bajan is going for the Jockey Club Cup or Stakes (get them mixed up) instead. Was rather shocked to discover he is toprated for that race as well. I suppose I’ve never taken fully onboard what level of performance it was in the Yorkshire Cup.
After that race, I wondered whether they might aim him at the World Hurdle instead of Champion Hurdle?
PS Just to check, The background really is pale pink, rather than my monitor being on the blink?
October 14, 2009 at 01:21 #253255Just says ground: good – soft/distance 2m + will keep him over hurdles; difficult to place. Will be interesting to see how he gets on in that race. Can’t see a price for him for Champion Hurdle; haven’t looked at World Hurdle.

Nanton definitely runs according to his trainer, so weights set to rise 8lbs.
October 14, 2009 at 03:43 #253272I like Woolfall Treasure for this as he will comfortably stay the trip and should go on the ground, even though the form took a knock with Kimberly Downs losing albeit at a much short distance.
Ryan Moore trying to make weight to ride so Buick might get the nod.
October 14, 2009 at 11:30 #253285Sounds unlikely that Al Eile will run, either. No sign of rain this week. Can’t believe that Nanton is actually taking his chance; it’s beginning to look as if I’ll be too nervous to even watch the race [think England, penalty shoot outs etc..may have to take the dog for a walk instead!]C’mon Nanton….
October 15, 2009 at 02:00 #253418Thanks, happy; thought he had a jockey booked so rather hoped he’d run, although thought he might have had a claimer on board to reduce that 4lb penalty. Will keep an eye on him, though…looking at the archive stuff on ATR rather liked to look of him….another one bites the dust. Hope Nanton realises how much is at stake here![just noticed that a lot of money has gone on Sereth today; maybe Mr Curley is planning something with this one.. my 25 pence ew might not be wasted on him after all]

You have to laugh, don’t you.
Apparently the plot goes way back; even sent his pilot to get a feel of him in a couple of races in Germany last season. He then ‘acquires’ the dual listed winner, runs him 5 times, dropping him in class until he’s got 18lbs off his back, puts him away for 4 months until everyone’s forgotten about him, then the money starts to appear at prices most of us only dream about.
Classic Barney Curley, I hope he pulls it off.
October 15, 2009 at 15:45 #253466Crickey; Sereth is 14/1 now!
October 16, 2009 at 00:26 #253533I can’t see George Elliot giving Soumillon the ride on
Darir
not unless he has a chance of staying and getting a place. He looks not to shabby a horse to be fair, and could run a good race at the weight. A small bet at 33/1 e/w is the call. If the trainer says he can improve for the trip, then who am i to argue ?
October 16, 2009 at 01:39 #253540davidjohnson was right; I should have waited till today to have my bets because most of the horses I’ve backed are either not running or their prices have gone out [learning curve]; except Sereth. May have another small ew on Tilt at 66/1 and Bulwark is now 80/1 with Corals. Still reckon that 6 year olds give you the best run for your money, having a better chance of winning or placing than any others.

I thought you backed David Pipe’s Mo? Interesting he goes here without a run…….never mind have a few quid on Viper @ 50/1 and 40/1. Supposidly ready to run the race of his life……but then again so will the rest of them be

You know it Moe, how well handicapped is he if he’s been laid out for this, he’s 20lbs better than the rating he’s running off (and has a decent enough 3lb claimer onboard), last time he ran on the flat he looked terrible, but had looked really well at haydock a few runs before that. At that sort of price its worth a go that he still has some of the old spark left and gets a decent pace, but ground and distance and weight are all in his favour. Good luck if you’ve backed him moe, here’s hoping for a good run.
Not done a huge amount of betting this flat season from saudi arabia but am getting on Bulwark (think I’ll try Dayia aswell), Never On Sunday, Silver Rock and Fencing Master on saturday.
October 16, 2009 at 11:57 #253566Save time and money dont bother backing any of the following,
Tilt(2),Nemo Spirit(3),Callisto Moon(4),Baharain Storm(5)
Dirar(6),Nanton(7),Sereth(8),Raslan(9),Swingkeel(10).If you have backed them already pray, but don’t be tempted by greed in re backing them at bigger prices. No matter who is riding them or what the trainer says, unless they can arrange a five lengths head start. It will be a miracle if any of them win.
good luck
October 16, 2009 at 16:41 #253598What I do lastsuspect is have tiny ante post bets; if a horses price comes in [like Sereth’s] I feel as if I’ve won anyway! Also go for huge prices because it’s nice to get a placed horse with a big price. Wouldn’t advocate anyone else doing the same, because nobody else goes to the bookies and puts 25 pence ew bets on [at least, I don’t think they do!].I also only go to the bookies because if I used betfair I wouldn’t trust myself not to get carried away. That horse you like, Aaim to Prosper; it’s interesting how connections have slowly slowly increased the distance he has been running over and don’t understand why his price didn’t come in more when he got quite a good draw. Oddschecker has no prices at the moment, so don’t know whats happening. Yes, Fist; I did back Mamlook and hoped DP wouldn’t run his others. Rotten draw for poor old Nanton, so not much chance of even a place for him. There have been some placed horses with huge prices over the years, and that’s what I’m looking for. Will be glad when tomorrow is over because I really should be doing other things!Maybe one day I’ll learn how to study the form, but at the moment I belong to the ‘lazy punters black book’ school of betting. Good luck with your horse; 200/1. wow![had ew’s on Bulwark and Viper; was going to back them last night but didn’t feel like driving into town..hoped they’d keep the prices till today,so when I read what Fist and Bulwark had written knew I had to include them; proper £1 bets they are as well. 25 pences have gone on Royal Rationale and Gordonsville, mainly because of the draw. Probably the only horses I haven’t backed are Aaim to Prosper, Truckers Delight and Dayia, so watch them romp home.
October 16, 2009 at 18:39 #253624we are all gonna need luck Mo thanks, still nanton may get a place because of his hold up style and if the pace is slow he may outsprint them all, but its a big ask, but i wish you luck with all your bets.
If you only do 25p ew, then it may be worth a go on times vital, bread to be a sprinter, but is a freak stayer, he has never raced beyond 1m6f, but his trainer knows the time of day, has good draw and ground will be fine.
aim to prosper will be ok but will still need luck in running, would have liked a higher draw. If i had to pick the winner now it would be fair along.
