Do you mispell horse names on purpose?
If you are going to criticise people’s spelling, you should at least spell misspell properly!

Think if Dillon Thomas had won at Epsom. You could throw out five of his other group one wins and he would read Epsom Derby and Arc de Triumph Enough said.
Horses don’t need the Epsom Derby to be considered great (although it is a great boost to their CV I admit)
Grey Swallow vs North Light
Hurricane Run vs MotivatorMay 13, 2008 at 08:59 #163136David,
If he had won the epsom derby he would not have run at 4 in my opinion.
Coolmore regularly show their preference for the english version – after all soldier of fortune has been kept in training this year despite winning the irish classic by nine lengths.
May 13, 2008 at 09:01 #163137David,
Please tell me you are not putting Grey Swallow up as a great horse?!May 13, 2008 at 09:05 #163139David,

While not suggesting it is at the top of the bracket in terms of importance, High Chaparral won the Epsom Derby and they kept him in training.

Please tell me you are not putting Grey Swallow up as a great horse?!No – just better than North Light (who won the Derby the year that Grey Swallow won the Irish Derby)

May 13, 2008 at 09:53 #163153Well – it’s not really a criticism … I’m just very intrigued if you do it on purpose!

This is a good article on the subject
You have to believe that any owner with a possible Derby winner is bound to think "what if" if he doesnt go for it?

I remembered that about five minutes after posting and thought some smart alec will pick me up on it!!!!! Generally though you’d expect them to be retired to stud..
May 13, 2008 at 11:25 #163183I was the smart Alec!

I think the Derby winner generally stays in training these days to prove himself over shorter. Arc winners (Hurricane Run, Montjeu) were all kept in training after winning the biggest race in Europe.
May 13, 2008 at 15:26 #163229I believe since Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith came aboard the coolmore operation has been able to go racing for the fun of it.Tabor brought D.Smith’s money and Montjue and Hurricane Run aboard in Europe giving him a voice. He also brought a Derby winner and a Belmont winner to the US operation. Both Smith and Tabor like to have a small bet. Remember after last years French Derby coming down from the stand with his arm around O’Brien and both so chuffed since the stable provided 3 of the first four and in France you back the stable. Not to mention his interview about Kieren Fallon after the Arc.They seem to be having more fun than the Godolfin operation.
May 13, 2008 at 15:37 #163231My most recent profound insight should have gone into the Godolfin thread. Please forgive.Drop it once more and you are out of the parade!
May 16, 2008 at 11:19 #163866Just one note of caution with this horse I don’t think he would want soft to appear in the going description.
