Struggling to see why the Hannon horse should be twice the price for the Coventry. I appreciate Steinbeck may have been running in a better race but visually there was no comparison. Many of the Hannon juveniles don’t progress and you should never get carried away about one run but Canford Cliffs looked to me as if he might be Group class at least. Disappointed I didn’t take the 16/1.
May 20, 2009 at 02:49 #228871The Hannon horse is twice the price because Steinbeck’s jockey runs in orange + blue silks.
May 20, 2009 at 03:14 #228877I think that Moore will be riding this one if it turns up which is by no means a bad thing, Stilvi.
Monseiur Chevalier is turning into a stable star for the Hannons at the moment though and he could be something special.
May 20, 2009 at 03:27 #228880IMO something wrong with owners and trainers who’ve already run a good and speedy 2yo 3 times by mid-May.
June 1, 2009 at 21:32 #231444Obviously, the market turned around since the original post and Canford Cliffs is now disputing favouritism.
I notice that today Stan James have cut Monsieur Chevalier from 10/1 to 6/1 for the Coventry.
I thought it was pretty definite that Monsieur Chevalier was going to run in the Norfolk and Canford Cliffs in the Coventry. Anyone heard anything to the contrary?
I think both have winning chances.
June 1, 2009 at 23:45 #231466When you see the improvement the O’Brien two year olds are making from their first starts then its no wonder Steinbeck is so short. He won probably the hottest two year old race in Ireland when pretty weak in the market – suggesting as with every other Ballydoyle two year old he will improve tons.
Look at Lillie Langtry today at Naas…completely demolished her field including the horse that easily beat her first time of asking.

You are talking as if O’Brien has had masses of two year old winners – I think it is about six isn’t it? I somehow doubt that the horse that ran third to Steinbeck improved ‘tons’.
June 2, 2009 at 01:28 #231480Pretty clear to anyone who has watched how he has trained his two year olds in recent years that they progress massively from one, two or even three runs. We see it now with his three year olds starting out so its even more so for his juveniles.
When did I say the horse that finished third to Steinbeck improved tons?

My apologies I was thinking the third was one of Aidan O’Brien’s when it was trained by David Wachman. Having said that It does make that ‘hottest two year old race’ look as if it was little more than a two horse race?

If Hannon’s is better than Monsieur Cavalier I can’t see O’Brien’s living with him. I thought the race in Ireland looked somewhat ordinary

O’Brien has run horses of the standard of Henrythenavigator, Oratorio, Landseer, Rock Of Gibraltar, Holy Roman Emperor…..if they fancy Steinbeck I don’t think Hannon and co have much of a chance if they are right.
June 3, 2009 at 01:36 #231666I agree with Aidan. Footstepsinthesand could have a good first season as a sire with Steinbeck leading the way.
It shouldn’t be forgotten how O’Brien spoke about him in the RP stable tour.
June 3, 2009 at 23:15 #231796Whatever O’Brien said about Steinbeck the market is telling a different story. Canford Cliffs was 16/1 he is now as low as 7/2. At the same time Steinbeck hasn’t moved.

I’d say given the nature of the antepost market on that race, a tenner bet probable did that!
June 8, 2009 at 15:15 #232715Steinbeck is due to bypass this race.
June 8, 2009 at 17:40 #232749How sure are you about this Aidan?
Is there a reason why, as the horse has been supported just today with William Hill?
June 8, 2009 at 17:49 #232750I am almost certain the horse is not running at Ascot.
