I cook infrequently these days, but like making bread, chicken curry, and a variety of pasta dishes providing I’m allowed to make some spicy tomato sauce to go with it.

Recently, my efforts mainly involve Spiderman cupcakes and sweet and sour sauce…

I made a most delicious scran for the lovely Mrs Grass, only the other week.

Chicken breast, stuffed with sun-blushed toms and goats cheese, wrapped in proscuitto. Served with salad, and parmentier potatoes a la Grass (boiled, diced and shallow-fried in chilli-oil).

All sloshed down with a bottle or two of chilled plonk blonk. Fecking marvellous.

With deep-fried Mars Bar for dessert?

Tsk-tsk, insomniac – that’s an urban myth. I’ve never even seen a deep-fried Mars Bar.

We had deep-fried Angel Delight for dessert, if you must know.

Suitably inspired by Zoz’s thread, I made the lovely Mrs Grass the following for dinner this evening. Cooking and preparation time approximately 5 minutes:

    Salad:
    Bed of rocket
    Cherry toms
    Sliced spring onion
    Sliced avocado

    Main nosebag:
Three garlic cloves, pan fried in chilli oil
    Add chilli flakes
Add a liberal dollop of King Prawns
    Lemon juice

Drain prawns and lob onto salad
Lob the juice from the pan on top of the lot
    Season to taste

Again, it was fecking marvellous, even if I say so myself. 8)

My particular forte is hot salads – grilled and marinaded chicken, squid, pork, etc. dumped in assorted carrot / cucumber / red onion / spring onion / beansprout / mushroom / garlic / shallot / mixed leaf combinations and laced with dressings primarily based on soy, nam pla, sesame oil, lime juice or oyster sauce.

I do a mean orange and almond cake as well.

The Lefties on the forum are really leading the way with their edible delights

I love cooking. I can rustle up most things – pasta dishes, curry (from scratch, none of this jar rubbish, unless I’m feeling lazy), stir fries, all manner of cakes and biscuits, chilli, pastries etc.

Tomorrow I’m baking a huge mocha sponge cake as I’ve got a party with my best buddies this weekend, and like me, they have huge appetites.

However my one weak spot is mince pies. I can never get them looking as good as the Marks and Spencers version. Still, I have 4 months to practise…

Thursday night is langoustine night, Corm. Every other night is mince n’ tatties night.

Re the deep-fried Mars Bar, thank Jebus they are strictly a west-of-Scotland ‘delicacy’ – I feel quite ill after seeing that picture.

Not sure if it still does, but my local chippie used to serve battered mars bars. For a short period he also offered deep fried snickers too, I believe.

There’s a place in Raffles Shopping Centre that sells these as well – I think they are trying to cater for the ex-pat taste  Even with my exceedingly healthy appetite I don’t think they are for me.

I can’t believe they actually exist. I thought they were a myth too!

    Weird.

Going through a lazy period on the cooking front at the moment as we’re trying to do up the kitchen…the way it looks at the moment you wouldn’t dare cook in it. So I’m very much looking forwards to that getting sorted out so I can get back into cooking….first and most important thing, I insisted on a huge spice rack.

Okay that’s actually crap, first and most important I insisted on a wine rack, THEN a spice rack.

And then a huge range cooker to mess up.

    Can’t wait!
