Think might have been the old Pegwell Bay colours carried on Northern Dusk in the bumper at Kelso.
No longer Major Barlow but a syndicate called the Peg Legs suggest some connection.
My all time favourite horse – one of his racing plates hangs over my front door. If so great to see them back on a racecourse and he shaped with some promise as well.
March 20, 2009 at 23:51 #217593A case of two for the price of one; not only does Northern Dusk run in the Pegwell Bay colours, but he’s also a grandson of that fine racemare Dalkey Sound. Great memories of both.
March 21, 2009 at 00:50 #217607Pegwell bay, now there"s a blast from the past, i always thought Pegwell was a very good 21/2m handicapper who never seemed to get 3m, he did
run against some very good horses in the 80"s Dessie and Barny, i can
remember his finest hour IMO,when he was getting a stone from the very
smart Beau ranger in the Mackeson gold cup i think it was called then and
basically beat him at the weights! I always thought he was an athletic jumper of a fence, but i got the impression he wasn"t over big in physique!
i may be wrong but i thought his colours were Black with a gold V! What a memory! or were they Barnbrook agains Colours!! Ummh!March 21, 2009 at 01:34 #217620i may be wrong but i thought his colours were Black with a gold V! What a memory! or were they Barnbrook agains Colours!! Ummh!
They were, as Richard suggests, exactly as those seen on Northern Dusk; Yellow, Black Spots and Sleeves, White Cap. Mel Davies’ (Barnbrook Again) colours were Black with Yellow Cross Belts and Armlets as shown here:
March 21, 2009 at 01:56 #217627Cheers Rory, i hadn"t seen Northern Dusks colours today! but youv"e got to give me 1/2 a point for getting the colours right, just got the designs wrong! not bad seeing how i haven"t seen them for nearly 20yrs!
