Am suprised at no mention of this earlier but California Chrome has arrived at Rae Guest’s stables in Newmarket to prepare for a tilt at Royal Ascot possibly preceeded by a run in The Lockinge.
For those not aware California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness last year before failing in his bid for the triple crown in the Belmont Stakes. He was third in last seasons Breeders Cup Classic a neck behind the winner and was second in The Dubai World Cup on Saturday. He has also won a Grade 1 on the turf in the states.
I think this is great news to see such a high class horse from America run over here.
April 2, 2015 at 09:49 #871843I would agree that it’s excellent news for British racing and hopefully he runs well enough in the Lockinge to guarantee his participation at Ascot.
However comments from his trainer Art Sherman suggested that he wasn’t fully behind this move which is understandable as he is losing his stable star for several months. I believe his son is coming across soon and it will be interesting to see who is in charge of his training.
April 2, 2015 at 10:49 #871849I can’t see California Chrome making much of an impact in the Lockinge or at Royal Ascot. He was woefully outpaced by Prince Bishop on his familiar surface in the Dubai World Cup. The combination of turf, our top 1m-1m 2f horses and the demands of aclimatisation will get him beaten in my opinion.
April 2, 2015 at 10:50 #871850I was a bit disappointed with his effort in the World Cup. It was hardly a vintage renewal and it really should have been his for the taking.
I look forward to the prospect of him at Royal Ascot and taking him on with Free Eagle in The Prince Of Wales.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 2, 2015 at 13:08 #871862I see Ladbrokes have opened a book on The Lockinge.
I am a bit surprised to see California Chrome 5/1 Co Favourite for the race alongside Night Of Thunder and Karakontie.
I would be looking to take him on at those odds.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
