What on earth was he doing, surely, given how rossa fell there, he’ll get a lifetime ban surely
That was unreal, cant believe he did that
September 30, 2022 at 13:43 #1616383Two-month ban: https://www.racingpost.com/news/international/controversy-in-france-as-soumillon-appears-to-elbow-rossa-ryan-out-of-the-saddle/581471
Calls for a life ban on social media are the usual keyboard lynch mob nonsense, but two months is lenient – I don’t know what the tariff range the stewards are empowered to hand out is, but he couldn’t have complained at six.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 30, 2022 at 13:44 #1616384Yeah, once this gets the traction in the public, that’ll soon change to a lifetime one
September 30, 2022 at 13:50 #1616386Continuous my 6/1 moral Beresford winner…

Hope Rossa is okay
Soumillon hugely talented jockey, surely a 20 year ban would be enough…

Charles Darwin to conquer the World
September 30, 2022 at 13:51 #1616387Given how the bha reacted to elliott, attempting to murder on one of our own jockeys, will likely gain a lifetime ban here
The reactionary 2 month ban is laughable, theyll regret dishing that out by days end
September 30, 2022 at 13:54 #1616388He still gets to ride at Arc weekend.
When an offence is that serious, shouldn’t the ban be effective immediately?
I know the argument will be that it is unfair to penalise connections who had nothing to do with the incident but it is not a good look for racing to allow him to ride and possibly gain a huge amount financially.
September 30, 2022 at 13:59 #1616390It will be interesting if he wins the Arc.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 30, 2022 at 15:00 #1616394Would it be an over reaction to suggest the police ought to be looking at that?
If it was this country they surely would? Im just thinking back to the recent Ronaldo slapping the mobile phone thing.
A deliberate act that could have caused serious bodily harm or even death.
September 30, 2022 at 15:07 #1616395Not an overreaction atall, if rossa had snapped his kneck there, which, was entirely possible, would he be to blame? Yes…. It was THAT bad,2 months is a joke
September 30, 2022 at 15:10 #1616396Maybe wrong but I don’t think any riding bans start with immediate affect – that being said he misses British Champions Day, the Breeders’ Cup and the Japan Cup. I struggle to see him winning the Arc in those conditions on a horse that is a suspect stayer at best (all relations never went further than 10.5F although the dam was a half sister to a 14F winner) but he didn’t look like a horse wanting another 2F at Leopardstown.
Not sure there is a specific rule for this type of incident (dnagerous riding maybe?) but it would have been interesting to see what the BHA would have done if it took place on a British course….have a feeling it wouldn’t have been as long as 2 months.
Ultimately, I am really glad Ryan is ok as landing feet first at that speed (35mph+) he ran a serious risk of breaking either his ankle or leg or both.
September 30, 2022 at 15:18 #1616397Rossa Ryan’s horse did lug in to the left a little in snatches but that was a crazy reaction. The whole race from the start from head on would be interesting to see, did something happen in the few seconds of “sideways on” on here ??? https://attheraces.com/atrplayer-popout/VOD/1309163?showResult=yes
September 30, 2022 at 15:24 #1616399That should be a year ban
One of the most disgraceful things I can remember seeing a jockey do

No one has been charged with dangerous riding on a British racecourse since 2009 – but even the British stewards might have had to invoke the rule if that incident happened here.
September 30, 2022 at 16:53 #1616404CAS – Not sure that they would given that stewards seem to go out of their way not to use it when there have been a few times recently where it was clearly warranted.
Like most things in life it will take something deadly happening before ultimate sanctions are put in place (the law of averages has looked kindly on racing so far) and even Freddy Tylicki’s incident was classed as ‘negligent riding’
September 30, 2022 at 17:01 #1616406I rarely agree with ham, but this time he is 100% spot on. Soumillon was pretty irresponsible at Sandown to say the least and just for his lying excuse after today he should be removed from the saddle forever.
Always behaves like an idiot when he wins a big race…..September 30, 2022 at 17:59 #161641460 days is far too lenient. Give him until next spring……and that’s a minimum. The elbow is pretty damning….
A Dutch cyclist got 9 months for forcing another rider into the barriers at the Tour of Poland in 2020…..it’s on YouTube if you’re interested.
September 30, 2022 at 18:03 #1616415The internet is full of faceless keyboard warrior lynch mobs, who want to hand out life bans for various things – bit sad to see it on TRF, tbh, I thought we were collectively better than that.
It wasn’t a deliberate attempt to injure, it wasn’t attempted murder, I expect to read that sort of infantile nonsense on the Betfair forum, not here.
What it was, however, was dangerous riding.
You don’t elbow another jockey during a race at upwards of 30mph, no matter how short of room you may feel he’s making you.
Two months is insufficient for a riding offence of that nature, but then I don’t know how much power France Galop gives local stewards, it might be the maximum ban they can hand out.
In my view it should have been referred to France Galop itself and I think six months would be appropriate.
As for the Police, a lot would depend on whether Rossa Ryan wanted to make a police complaint, feeling what Christophe Soumillon did strayed outside the boundaries of the sport into criminality.
