Delighted for her.
I backed the runner up win only.

October 10, 2022 at 16:27 #1618009Lucky old Bryony!
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysOctober 11, 2022 at 20:04 #1618139“Dunne is back on Tuesday.”
Back with a winner as well.
October 11, 2022 at 21:07 #1618154What are the chances ……very good apparently
October 11, 2022 at 22:53 #1618164Wonder when the inevitable happens and they get jocked up in the same race – the weighing room on that day will be interesting to say the least.
October 12, 2022 at 05:55 #1618173I don’t care tbh – I’ve always been more interested in racing than in the people in racing.
There are people – and their melodramas if you want that sort of thing – in all walks of life, it’s the actual sport and the betting on it that makes the game absorbing for me.
She was right to complain, he was rightly banned and has served his ban now and he’s entitled to be back, time to move on rather than poke the embers of an old fire.

October 12, 2022 at 18:06 #1618215As long as he has learned his lesson then yes things should move on, but only time will tell on that score and arguably it might take another similar such riding incident to that which started this whole sorry affair off in the first place before we know whether he can put into practice what he has preached.
He gets the benefit of the doubt that he has changed……….for now
October 12, 2022 at 23:48 #1618239Given the huge number of previous opportunities that Dunne has had to express contrition and make amends, I am very sceptical that he is a changed man.
His recent apology only referenced the incident at Southwell rather than the wider bullying he was found to have committed. It did not give the impression that he has used his time away to reflect and grow, and left me with the impression the only thing he is really sorry about is that he got banned.
If nothing else, hopefully his experience will have encouraged him to control his behaviour better in future.
October 13, 2022 at 05:46 #1618254Tbh, I doubt whether Dunne is bothered whether or not anyone here (or anywhere) cares whether he’s being given the benefit of the doubt here (or anywhere) or whether anyone is sceptical about his contrition.
He did wrong, he got punished, he served his punishment, he’s entitled to return.
That’s it and all about it.
A civilised society will punish misdemeanours in the greater interests of society as a whole but, once a punishment has been served, it’s time to move on.
Continually raking over the embers of this unfortunate incident from this point onwards actually says more negative about those who indulge in doing so than about Dunne himself in my view.
He did wrong, he’s served his punishment – it’s gone.
End of.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 13, 2022 at 10:03 #1618267Disagree Ian. This was a very prominent topic last year which created much discussion, and it sadly produced a negative image of a sport I care about greatly.
It’s natural for people to continue to be interested in the aftermath. One or two posts on a forum by people such as LD73 or myself does not constitute continual raking of old embers.
Of course Dunne doesn’t care what a few people on an Internet forum think. But people commenting on his return and what he has said relating to it seems an entirely reasonable response to me. If you’re not interested, fine, but I think this is an entirely fair topic for discussion.
October 13, 2022 at 14:10 #1618288No problem, Marlingford, I respect – and would even defend if necessary – your right to not only disagree but say pretty much anything you like within the laws of libel and hate speech (not that an Uber civilised poster such as yourself would come within a furlong of transgressing either).
Maybe it’s my (extremely moderate) Law degree talking, or maybe it’s just who I am, but I am a great believer in crime and punishment.
Someone does a “crime,” they get “punished,” it’s over – the ban was the punishment, carrying an eternal stigma wasn’t, I don’t much like the sound of the bloke, but he lost his living for the best part of a year and I think he deserves the chance to pick up the pieces of what’s left of his career, that’s all.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 13, 2022 at 15:19 #1618301There is bound to be a bit of noise but it will soon blow over.

October 13, 2022 at 16:41 #1618308Thanks for your reply Ian. I agree that Dunne deserves the right to resume his career, and to go about his business unharassed (even though it’s a luxury he did not afford others).
But I am interested to see what effect his punishment has had on him. His recent half-apology suggests that he still doesn’t really recognise there was a wider problem with how he acted. So I guess he does continue to carry a stigma as far as I’m concerned, but that’s purely due to what he has chosen to say recently.
I would respect him much more if he properly acknowledged his past behaviour, but I get the impression he still thinks he is a wronged man, so this is unlikely to happen.
Hopefully he will be able to keep his behaviour in check because he knows the consequences of not doing so. I hope for his own sake and racing’s that he manages to do so.
