There was a lot of criticism of this young lad after the Dunguib ride at Cheltenham and most of it was totally unwarranted.

For the sake of balance, I thought I’d flag up his ride on Woodbine Willie in the beginners chase down at Mallow today. Got the favourite up from the former Pierse Hurdle winner Spring The Que under an inspired drive despite losing his whip on the run-in. Walsh, McCoy, Geraghty or Russell would have been proud of the ride.

    Were you watching McCririck?

    Roll on Punchestown.

I didn’t agree with the Cheltenham criticism as on the day I thought he was beaten by two better horses. Certainly no worse ride than AP who ended up second on a horse that probably should have won.

Having said that not so sure Woodbine Willie would be the best horse to select in his defence as over confidence appeared to get him beaten on his previous start.
