And this recent Nissan story the right wing folk seem to forget Nissan only staying because got government over a barrel with money they getting from them. Even Gupta said today getting subsidiaries from government
And Nissan Renault in Northern France are building 2 car factories worth £2billionIf still in EU the Government would not be giving taxpayers money to Nissan but because we not in EU no more they giving a substantial amount to Nissan
July 1, 2021 at 17:19 #1548649Brexit has been a disaster for N Ireland; utterly destabilised, the old enmities given new life.

You think I’m joking?

I know my lad and his fellow Millennials wanted to remain. Won’t make much difference for us oldies who live in the UK, not sure about those that packed up and moved to sunnier climes.
I tend not to give too much thought to things that don’t affect me

Hope that didn’t sound selfish
July 1, 2021 at 23:57 #1548702Quite a few of the oldies who moved to the sun got bitten on the arse already. It turns out that EU countries can take back control too and boot them out before they outstay their welcome. Loads of them had to fly back at the end of March because they didn’t apply for residency and are only allowed to stay 90 days at a time.
I’d be interested to hear what the benefits of leaving are, we were told that it was all upsides so should be an easy question to answer. Or perhaps someone could give us an example of something they did in the last six months that the EU stopped them doing before. I’m all ears.

Serves them right for deserting Old Blighty
July 2, 2021 at 00:32 #1548706I have been asking people to give me one positive reason for leaving for 5 years now. Nobody’s so far come up with one, just jingoistic bullshit.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJuly 2, 2021 at 03:05 #1548716You’re not wrong Darren, it’s an unmitigated disaster. There hasn’t been a study
yet that doesn’t show that the UK has already lost a vast amount. From conservative
figures of 40 Billion up to 130 Billion. Whatever the amount is, and some predictions
are that we are heading towards having lost more than we paid into the European Union
over the 47 years we were in it, we are massively worse off than if we had stayed.
Government will blame Covid, and it has affected all economies, but the true devestating
figure of loss will become apparent over the next few years. We didn’t just shoot ourselves
in the foot, we cut ourselves off at the knees.July 2, 2021 at 14:42 #1548760Yeh, but, innit, but, we got our Sovereignty!

March 4, 2022 at 08:41 #1585669Pretty scathing piece from Michael Heseltine this morning:
March 4, 2022 at 09:00 #1585671Nissan Renault are hardly likely to build the plants in the U.K. are they?
The clue is in the name
March 4, 2022 at 09:13 #1585672I was pretty even on the vote but it beggars belief that the vaccine rollout has suddenly been forgotten
It was a perfect example of why a centralised all encompassing eu will be schlerotic and incompetent. Too many component parts
March 4, 2022 at 09:20 #1585673There are plusses and minuses to most things but, while there have been some significant plusses, I’d say the net minuses still outweigh them.
I voted Remain, but it was a marginal decision as I’ve various misgivings about the EU.
But I’ve got more misgivings about what’s happened since.
We’re free of the EU!
But, err, worse off.

Lost 130 billion what? How?
There is no evidence either way that we are “worse off”. For a start covid threw all calculations and secondly it’s way way too early to tell. You would have to see at least a five year cycle for that
One thing is certain that most of the obsessive remainers predictions at the time just seem comical now
