I thought it would be fun to run a tipping competition over the 2 days of the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Monmouth Park – Oct 26th and 27th.
I’ll post a new thread up on Tuesday (declaration day) and you can post your selections any time up to the post time of the first Breeders’ Cup race on each day. There is no need to sign up in advance and if you miss your selections for Friday’s meetings you can still join in on Saturday.
Here are the races and (UK) race times:
Friday
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf 9.20pm
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile 9.55pm
Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint 10.35pmSaturday
Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies 5.30pm
Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile 6.10pm
Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf 6.55pm
TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint 7.35pm
Netjets Breeders’ Cup Mile 8.20pm
Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Distaff 9.05pm
John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf 9.50pm
Breeders’ Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge 10.35pmYou will be required to make one selection for each race (reserves allowed in case of non runners) with one nap over the course of the 2 day meeting (ie your most fancied runner over the 11 races).
Here are the points:
10 points for 1st
7 points for 2nd
4 points for 3rd
1 point for 4thYour nap will score double these points.
In addition there will be a bonus for winners only basedon pari-mutuel returns:
5 points for a winner at 5/1 or better
10 points for a winner at 10/1 or better
15 points for a winner at 15/1 or betterThese points are not cumulative (ie just the one bonus per winner).
I’ll be bringing back some Breeders’ Cup merchandise from Monmouth for the prizes.
Hope plenty of you join in and let me know if you have any thoughts/questions.
October 19, 2007 at 18:02 #120483Nice idea Adrian – would have nothing to do with the fact that you are the professor of all things racing international would it

Seriously, sounds like a great idea and this is the only flat meet of the season I get really into – could be because it’s a Saturday night and goes down well with a pint or two.
I shall attempt to enter and very generous of you re: the prizes.

October 20, 2007 at 16:31 #120660Looking forward to your selections Lee and don’t worry I won’t be entering!
For anybody who is interested they have had quite a bit of rain here at Monmouth and it is on the soft side now. However it is a gorgeous sunny day in the mid 70’s and the expection is good to firm by Friday.
