2 distinct ‘Sprints’; one 6f on pro-ride, the other 6.5f on turf, and that distinction’s important in the case of
Fleeting Spirit.
In the longer race last year, she hit the front 1 out and was still fighting for the lead with 100yds to go, just not quite lasting home.
Nothing she has done this year suggests she’s any worse than then; she won the July Cup comfortably and would almost certainly have won the Betfred, had the weather been kinder. Then ran a blinder in the L’Abbaye after a slow start, though unable to catch the speedball Total Gallery on the fast ground over the sharp 5, finished like the top class act she definitely is over what turned out a completely inadequate test on the day.
Her outside draw shouldn’t be too much of a problem in this small field, and though she may not quite last home if the surface is at all slow, with the dead 8 declared VC’s 14/1 is far too big for a horse that will be difficult to keep out of the places.
Bet of the meeting, for me.November 5, 2009 at 06:08 #257165Have went for Canadian Ballet at 20-1 in the turf sprint but think I’ll have to agree with Fleeting Spirit in the Sprint as win, lose or draw shes a good price and could well handle the surface.

Not a hope in hell anything we have entered will win this.
Zensational is unbelievably fast and his jockey doesn’t even have to move for this thing to take off like a rocket.
No doubt he will press the button 2f out just to be sure but this race is over the minute the stalls open.
Zensational (Banker)
November 5, 2009 at 09:38 #257191Zensationals draw not going to help him much but the American’s fancy him.
Check out this video which shows his last few videos.
November 5, 2009 at 09:45 #257192I am on Zensational already ( NRNB ).
My hope is that he can get to the front early and that his explosive speed can see him home.
My fear is that he is used to running in small fields and tends to get things his own way. I have also noticed that he starts to tie up towards the finish and for all his Dayjur-like speed, there is that slight niggling doubt about his stamina.
I know … caution and doubt follow me everywhere.

Only if they get beat Harry
November 6, 2009 at 15:06 #257444No problem with front runners at Santa Anita. Even across the board there at the distance (Front runners, trackers and deep closers). No bias.
Saying that, despite Zensational being an incredible horse he will have his manner tested when going to the front in this. His pace rivals are drawn in stall 2 & 3 and, with the way that Zensational has broken recently, Victor Espinosa will have a little problem getting it all his own way. If Zensational breaks as slow as last time Cost of Freedom and Fatal Bullet will be over on the rail and in front of him.
In addition to this, Zensational hasnt faced ANYONE of any decent quality this year. He may have been impressive but none of the horses he has been beating have help up the form. Talking To Mom Roo, a horse he beat recently, finished nowhere near the front last night and out of the places whci ha race run to suit. The Zensational form isnt as strong as suggested. He’s been a G1 horse running against allowance company.
Last year we had a ridiculous first quarter in the other sprint of 20.3 (almost 1.7 secs quicker than the norm) where there a was lot of pace horses drawn close up together and we could get that again here. The draw gave Zensational a great stall 1 draw but it couldnt have got much worse for him when the other two pace horses got drawn next door.
Capt Candyman Can and Gayego will be suited by the fast pace here and I fully expect Gayego to land the spoils running from his deep closing position.
November 6, 2009 at 16:08 #257451Have had a win bet on Gayego which means he will come second I’m afaid….it happens every time. Blame me, Gayego backers…

Hope youre wrong Moe! Gayego is my best bet of the week….well….other than Valuev to know Mr Haye out tomorrow night
November 6, 2009 at 16:24 #257453I have only seen a few clips of Zensational but to me he looks as if he has an awkward head carriage and consequently I wouldn’t want to be on him if it came down to a battle
November 7, 2009 at 15:42 #257628I’m rowing in with Gayego as well, the race may be run to suit him.
November 7, 2009 at 15:45 #257629Much prefer Gayego of the top in the market, but Fleeting Spirit is the value. She’s simply a class act and will like the trip and the fast surface should suit. If they drop her in from her wide draw that could turn out to be the place to be with all the pace on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her storm through late and fast. 12/1: value
November 7, 2009 at 15:51 #257630I wouldn’t be too worried about Zensational in stall one.
Bob Baffert has worked hard on this element of his game in the past few weeks and I expect him to break fine.
Cost Of Freedom is no supertar and Fatal Bullet (second in this last year) has been unable to dominate his races at this level, so Zensational should get the rail with anything more than a modest break.
The Ancient Title Stakes was a huge pointer to this event. Contested over course and distance, Gayego was 1 1/4L too good for Crown Of Thorns, with Cost Of Freedom the same distance back in fourth.
Gayego must have given them six lengths turning in, but made up ground with the minimum of fuss to win with much in hand.
Crown Of Thorns has a Grade Two win over nine furlongs to his name, so it will be interesting to see if Gayego can do the same to genuine speedster like Zensational, who doesn’t stop.
Fleeting Spirit has the ability to go close, but I’m worried about her ability to handle the course and she hasn’t been the quickest from the blocks lately. I can see her plugging on for fourth / fifth without really landing a blow.
I think this Zensational could be something special. His form is nothing to shout about, but he has taken command of his races with such ease, dominates and then quickens again down the stretch. Unconventional head carriage, but from what I’ve seen thus far there’s nothing wrong with his temperament.
Gayego to grab second ahead of Crown Of Thorns.
November 7, 2009 at 19:35 #257688I think the only thing that will beat zensational is the draw, capt candyman could outrun its price.
