October 24th and October 25th-maybe they can keep Lava Man going for another 18 months
No announcement on 09 and 10 until July. I thought they said they would always name the next 3 host tracks at the same time? Leads me to believe they are seriously considering he event moving out of North America for the 1st time
April 20, 2007 at 16:45 #53522"1st not to be run on dirt"

October 14, 2007 at 01:04 #5353With all the Defections from the Breeders’ Cup, will the fields for the Canadian International and the E P Taylor Stakes be boosted by top notch runners from Europe.
I remember that Sulamani swerved the 2004 BC Turf to go to Toronto and wondered if something similar was afoot this year?
October 14, 2007 at 08:16 #119398In the Canadian International from Europe:
Irish Wells (Rohaut/Peslier)
Ask (Stoute/Moore)
Quijano (Schiergen/Starket)
Oracle West (de Kock/Murtagh)A decision today about Honolulu. Doctor Dino won’t run
because worries about softness of ground. In EP Taylor
For Sins (Oxx/Kinane)
Mrs Lindsay (Rohaut/Murtagh)In Nearctic
Dark Missle (Balding/Dwyer)
October 14, 2007 at 16:37 #119449Ask and Quijano will have strong claims…
October 15, 2007 at 11:22 #119534George runs in the Classic and Ballydoyle will have more than 2 entries, contrary to previous reports.
December 13, 2007 at 10:28 #5953Increases to 14 races for Santa Anita 2008
Which will be $1 Million Juvenile Rurf race for fillies
$1 Million Turf Sprint
$500,000 1 1/2 Mile "Marathon" Dirt RaceBreeders’ Cup have obviously asked for an assurance from tracks that they will card more 1 1/2 mile+ Stakes/Graded races as I noted yesterday that the Grade 2 Brooklyn H has been increased in length from 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 Miles.
On a dissapointing note on the NYRA Stakes Schedule I noticed the moving of the Man O’ War Stakes from the 1st weekend of Belmont’s Fall meet to the w/e of 12th July-which will probably mean that very few or indeed no European horses will run in the race in the future.
December 13, 2007 at 11:16 #130289To confirm what Pengamon has said about the new Breeders’ Cup races the Turf Sprint will be run over 6 1/2 furlongs down the hill (therefore they will cross the Cushion Track course when they hit junction of the main track rather like at Kempton).
I’m disappointed about the Man o’War as well. It fitted in nicely after the Arlington Million in it’s previous spot and was won by the French trained Doctor Dino on route to his great success in Hong Kong Vase on Sunday.
As well as the Brooklyn Handicap going to 12 furlongs there will be staying races on the dirt in California, Keeneland and Philadelphia – at least – in preparation for the Dirt Marathon (yes I know strange name for a 12 furlong race!) at Santa Anita.
The new Juvenile Turf fillies race will be over a mile.

I went back and checked the Man o’War and see that there have been 5 European trained winners since 1990-including Daylami and Fantastic Light-and Dahlia going further back.
Wouldn’t it have been better if the Sword Dancer had been moved to the opening weekend of Saratoga-the same weekend as the Diana-and for the Arlington Million moved 1 week later in the calendar-which would have allowed horses to run at Saratoga and Arlington and still left a 3 week gap to the Man o’War.
Adrian-do we have any ideas which races in California, Philly Park and Keeneland will become "Marathons"
December 13, 2007 at 14:46 #130354It didn’t say on the B Cup or NYRA releases. I could take a stab but probably best to wait for Issue 1 of Bloodhorse Stakes guide.
The Man O War has always been a popular race and well positioned for horses stepping up to the Turf Classic trip.
Now the race will be run as a replacement for the Bowling Green and will be up against races like the Northern Dancer at Woodbine and obviously won’t be of such interest to Europeans coming at the peak of our summer season.
I know that Arlington are still considering the date of the Million and I hope they avoid the newly positioned Sword Dancer. It can’t help if the best East Coast jockeys can’t make the trip to Chicago because of local committments.

And the Man O War will also have less appeal if any American trained 3 year olds were being considered for the race-as they would be much better off taking on their age group for more money in the Virginia Derby which is normally that weekend or the next one.
It didn’t say on the NYRA website which Saratoga Grade 1 will replace the Sword Dancer that weekend-as they will aim to have at least 1 Grade 1 every weekend.
December 13, 2007 at 15:26 #130363Is this new term going to be applied acros the board?
Could the Triple Crown now consist of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Marathon ?

And the 1st running isn’t even going to be on Dirt
December 13, 2007 at 16:45 #130374Peng – August 8th and 9th now only have one New York bred stake each day. Hardly the sort of weekend fayre you are used to at Saratoga.
If that is the date of the Arlington Million – and nothing decided yet – then maybe you’ll make the trip down to Chicago.

I might well do that. I did all 36 days there (37 if you include the Open House Steeplechase races) this year and will never do that again even if i’m there for the whole meet.
I haven’t been to the Arlington Million since 2003 and if that’s the fare on offer at Saratoga-I will be very likely go to Arlington especially if "Aussie Pete" is staying with me in Saratoga before or after that. I thnk heay well be and we would probably stop off at Presque Isle Downs en route.
Can’t think of what else i’d be missing that weekend. New York bred sales (whoopee) and the National Racing Museum Ball-which costs an arm and a leg anyway.
