The truly incredible thing is that Boris Johnson’s title of worst PM in British history was surely taken by Liz Truss, his immediate successor.
It’s like Frankel winning the International Stakes and being beaten next time out or Arkle winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup and then getting slaughtered.

January 10, 2023 at 00:17 #1630329Hello GSP, what is it you like about Patel and Braverman, if you don’t mind me asking?
January 10, 2023 at 05:16 #1630335Debating which is the worst Tory PM of recent times is akin to debating which is the worst plane to crash in ….. your still crashing and dying which ever one your in
January 10, 2023 at 09:45 #1630348Hello Steeplechasing, go on what do you think I like about them because whatever I write they’ll be half a dozen weak lily livered on here who will tell me where I’m wrong because I’m heartless etc and I will be waiting to be labelled the hard or far right just because I like people who I feel are standing up for and want to protect our country in the first instance.
And if people like civil servants are standing in their way and they want to kick their arses then great.January 10, 2023 at 09:58 #1630349GSP, I understand from your posts that you think what they are doing is right – and I understand that; it’s a hugely thorny and difficult subject and you are far from alone in your views. But there’s a difference, I think, about thinking what someone is doing is right, and liking them. I am just curious what you find likeable in their personalities, as I am always curious about people who don’t run with the herd.
January 10, 2023 at 10:14 #1630352Steeplechasing, quite simple really without knowing them I like them as feel what they are doing and how they are doing it is right.
But even then with their straight forward tougher no nonsense attitude, there’s more around them who’ll ensure they don’t get things done.
We have a left liberal government so they’ll talk but they’ll be no action unless you are woke etc as everything there is going through, and unchallenged.January 10, 2023 at 10:14 #1630353‘whatever I write they’ll be half a dozen weak lily livered on here who will tell me where I’m wrong because I’m heartless etc and I will be waiting to be labelled the hard or far right’
Does that usually happen? Noting that disagreeing with someone is not ‘telling them they are wrong’, certainly not when reasoning for that opinion is provided. There is no need for the ‘weak lily livered’ insult. Is that not the same as doing what you accuse others of?
‘just because I like people who I feel are standing up for and want to protect our country in the first instance.’
That’s the thing, I would not call much of what the government as a whole is doing as being anything like standing up for our country or putting us first. The channel crossings are but one small part of the many problems we have.
The issue needs to be sorted but demonising what are desperate people is not in my opinion the way to go about it. That Braverman ‘dreams’ of deporting them to Rwanda suggests that she takes a certain amount of perverse pleasure in doing so. She could very easily say, ‘I don’t want to have to do this, but if that’s what it takes I will’ or similar. If she enjoys deporting people, does she even want to stop them coming? After all, no channel crossings, no deportation flights.
I would rather they focus their attempts to deal with the issue at source and treat people with compassion. As I have said, the traffickers are the real criminals here.
January 10, 2023 at 10:14 #1630354I think I want to protect this country by not wanting the rest of the world to regard us as a racist, xenophobic race of people. But I suppose we all have different ideas on what makes a country and it’s people great.
January 10, 2023 at 10:25 #1630356‘We have a left liberal government’
If you want serious debate, you can’t be coming out with nonsense like that.
January 10, 2023 at 10:25 #1630357Haha,
See, quick responses from the weak lily livered above.
My god how embarrassing the speed, but I knew they were coming.
Aren’t you lot out protesting somewhere!January 10, 2023 at 10:37 #1630358I’ve been back on TRF a few years now, I always endeavour to debate robustly but courteously, but it’s my impression a few centre-right contributors have departed, feeling they’ve been driven away by the likes of me, or even specifically me.
There is a manifest centre-left majority bias in the Lounge now, I am acutely aware of it and I consciously try to avoid joining pile ons on any remaining centre right posters, who are entitled to their view and to express it.
But it doesn’t alter the fact that Patel and Braverman horrify me and their supporters sometimes horrify me too.
Britain is supposedly the sixth-wealthiest nation on the planet, but it doesn’t feel like that for most here and the nation can no longer afford to be home to every asylum seeker or refugee or would-be immigrant generally.
But there is such a thing as a social conscience and being called Lily-livered for having one by those who apparently don’t is a bit much, I feel.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 10, 2023 at 10:40 #1630359Personal insults, no attempt to address the points made. I’m out.
But a brief word on protest. Done peacefully, it is in my opinion the single most fundamental pillar of democracy there is. No right to protest, no democracy.
Not sure why it appears to be being used as an insult here. Feel free to answer but don’t expect a response.
January 10, 2023 at 11:35 #1630362And I always thought religion was supposed to be the great divide!
Thanks for your balanced post Ian.
While you say you are horrified about Patel or Braverman supporters, the same people will also defend this country to the hilt both verbally and more importantly physically, so while we are a little different in our ways of thinking, you do need us and won’t survive without us!Indeed as we see this left liberal government take us more down the pan, and pandering to the minority groups (LGBT painted police cars WTF!) the silent majority are getting pretty pissed off with things I can tell you.
The so called insult (I thought I could put much worse) are more borne out of frustration as it’s these people taking this country down the road to oblivion and I really couldn’t care if I hurt their little feelings, bless them.
If your out then bye, that’s one less on the left and equals it up here a little! Yes I am here but appears there are too many lefties tapping away on places like these where they should be out making this country great, and doing their bit, whatever that is! Is it a bit, or really nothing of value?
But in truth they just want the country to fail just to prove a point. Bar the NHS, that’s what the strikes are about.
January 10, 2023 at 12:57 #1630374Thanks for the response, GSP. You say, “the same people will also defend this country to the hilt both verbally and more importantly physically”
Sounds like some kind of uprising. Given you’re a punter, which group do you think more likely to fill the streets in massive, poll-tax like demonstrations, the left or the right? And how would you price it? 10/11 each, or, say, 1/4 one of them?
January 10, 2023 at 15:33 #1630390I don’t care if it’s left right or middle. This country is supposed
to take care of it’s own people and yet people are freezing to death
in boxes in shop doorways. Worse than the fact that they look the other
way, in the last 2 years the number of rough sleepers that have died has
risen by 80%. Yes 80% (1280 last year). These are our own citizens who for
whatever reason, have fallen on hard times. I’m appalled, this is a national
disgrace. How many more people are going to end up in these circumstances with the
current increase in food and heating. This should be a priority.January 10, 2023 at 15:34 #1630391“Left liberal government….;” the same one bullied by the Tory right wing into dragging us out of the EU.
