Seldom have I seen a good jockey get a horse to meet a fence on a stride so many times in a race only to have it put down on him.

Ahoy Senor is a VERY frustrating chaser!

Great effort by the much-maligned Nicky Henderson and Nico De Boinville there to get Shishkin back AGAIN.

    Just call that horse Lazarus.

Well, the jockey change on Ahoy Senor didn’t seem necessary. He would have hit exactly the same amount of fences with Derek Fox riding him.

I think Shishkin missed the chance du give GDC a fright in this year’s Gold Cup. Don’t think he would have won, but a 2nd/3rd place would have been realistic.

Ahoy Senor went better for longer than I thought. Conflated disappointing and APT jumped out to his right again and put down a couple of times. Well done Shishkin especially after a tough enough race at Cheltenham.

Shiskin didn’t seem himself at Cheltenham. I doubt he wouldve figured in that.

He wouldn’t have beaten BMG and on the softer ground, possibly not Conflated either. I think he won today due to everything else running to grade 2 level at best.

Maybe, you’re right, Green and Mike. He always seems wrong at Cheltenham or at least this is a place where he likes to underperform. Still think that he might not like the track and the noisier crowd.

But true, Ahoy Senor travelled and jumped a lot better towards the end.

Ahoy Senor’s jumping again cost him but he has his own way of jumping and you have to live with that. Jockey has just reported he has lost a front shoe.

Shishkin might need some blinkers as the further up in trip they have gone the slower he seems to look. No chance he would run in it but the National is looking more and more like a race he would do well in, don’t think he would cut much ice with GDC in a Gold Cup but no doubt they will tell us he is a Gold Cup horse now all along. That form is a long way off what GDC is capable of.

Better from A PLus Tard but clearly not the horse he was last year and as I expected Conflated’s Cheltenham exertions have left a mark…..might be a blessing that BMG wasn’t allowed to run.

You may have a point. Might Bite won this after that brutal Gold Cup in the muck fighting Native River but was never the same after that.

Ahoy Senor rather threw that away, two very slow jumps at the end.

Correction, jump at 2nd last was fine, but the slow jump at the last was v slow. Don’t think either are threat to BMG in the King George or GDC in the Gold Cup.

I’d agree with that although if Shishkin turned up and jumped every fence clean he could still be capable of a monster performance.. That’s a bit of a long shot that happening though

He hasn’t turned up and jumped every fence clean for a long time – that ship has sailed and even if he did manage it he doesn’t appear to have the tactical speed needed to trouble the likes of GDC
