I’m not bothered by Rooney’s comments as he walked off, if you stick a camera in a player’s face after such a disappointing game, that’s what you get.

But I do think there is a misunderstanding amongst the England players and in parts of the media about the place of football fans. They are supporters, yes, but they are not cheerleaders. They are not employed by the team, will continue to support England long after Rooney et al have retired to their private islands and having paid their money, they are entitled to express an opinion.

As was pointed out on R5 earlier today, the supporters of some other countries are far more vociferous and quick to turn on them. A little bit of booing is hardly the end of the world and if it galvanises the players/manager to change things, then so be it.

Totally agree Andrew. I think they are spoiled by adulation and their egos get pricked when they’re not being worshipped.

Playing (and looking) like a team with the weight of the world on their shoulders at the moment. They have no flair or freedom about the way they are playing or the way they are carrying themselves on the pitch.

A goal or two can turn that around so if they can beat Slovenia they might go into the second round with a load of pressure off and be able to play to their abilities.

What does Rooney expect from the fans? They have spent their hard earned wages to see their team play in South Africa. If we’re all honest about it we live in more hope than expectation that they will win the World Cup..but we do expect to see them play good football and go down fighting. I don’t know much about football, but I do know when I’m seeing a good game or a bad one. Last night was dire. If I did my job as badly as that I’d be sacked.

Imagine being unable to score against Postman Pat’s mediocre eleven – tut, tut ! :?

    :D

The Algerian manager has to be under pressure after that effort.
