After Hanagan’s “win at all costs” ride at Royal Ascot – can’t help but think his retirement is great news for Racing.
Value Is EverythingAugust 23, 2023 at 14:19 #1660558Wasn’t his finest hour but a bit harsh to judge him on one ride
much better to have a non tryer eh gingeGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
August 23, 2023 at 14:24 #1660560Agree with Ginger. I used to have a lot of time for Hanagan but that ride was a disgrace. His attitude afterwards did not make it better.
He had a great career, rode a lot of winners and was Champion Jockey twice – but that ride was a shocker from such an experienced jockey.
August 23, 2023 at 14:34 #1660564Hanagan may have had some good rides in the distant past, Nathan. But what he did at Royal Ascot spoilt his record and my point is: Considering his recent jockeyship – Hanagan’s retirement can imo only be safer for Racing.

August 28, 2023 at 23:43 #1661442Thanks for the updates vf, wishing them all long and happy retirements.
Achille was very much on the downgrade last season so the time seems right. Am a bit more surprised to see Dingo Dollar’s name as Sandy Thomson has had a lot of success with veterans, and the horse won his sole venture in that sphere last season.
August 29, 2023 at 05:12 #1661457Marlingford Sandy has Dingo,s brother coming through , keep an eye on the bumpers this winter ….
August 29, 2023 at 05:18 #1661458Was that bumpers or jumpers this winter ?
September 1, 2023 at 17:35 #1661692Great to see Shark Hanlon posting a photo of Cape Gentleman having arrived safely in America. Seems a long time since Aintree but he’s finally made it. Hope that he and his owners have many happy years together.

September 16, 2023 at 01:18 #1663162Junoesque twelve time winner (including eight at Brighton) and a horse I’ve been a bit part owner of for the last couple of seasons has been retired after picking up a small injury.
Whilst we could have kept going with her a bit longer there seemed no point in taking that risk especially as our intention is to breed from her.
We’ve also in recent times retired Paddy K (most exasperating horse I’ve ever been involved with), Katie K and Los Camachos. - AuthorPosts
