Menorah bows out with victory. Feeling quite sad about his retirement as although it’s great he goes out on a high and in one piece it feels like an end of an era as he was my wife Sam’s (grotbags66 on here) favourite horse and a nice link or comfort blanket if you like when he was running.

April 29, 2017 at 18:29 #1298913Menorah – what a fabulous horse. Done me many favours. Hope he has a long retirement with Richard Johnson..
April 29, 2017 at 18:51 #1298915Nice to see a Hobbs/Johnson stalwart bow out on a high. They’ve had more than their share of heartache with that sort of cult hero down the years, so they certainly deserve to enjoy a happy ending.
April 29, 2017 at 22:12 #1298933What a wonderful sight Menorah was today. What a horse
Another grand old Grade 1 winning chaser, First Lieutenant, was retired on Thursday after finishing 3rd in the La Touche Cup. He seemed to have been in the wilderness for a while, and it was good to see him go out on the back of a good performance as well.
His Grade 1 chase win was in the 2013 Betfred Bowl over none other than Menorah.
May 1, 2017 at 20:44 #1299124For those who might be wondering where he’s heading – here’s the answer. Sprinter has gone to join Spencer Sturmey’s eventing yard.

Sounds as if they’re going to let him decide what he likes doing, which is great news to read. He’s never looked like a horse for a field to me. Far too much of a show off for that, and so much obvious talent for other activities. Hopefully though we’ll still get to see him – and I hope too that Sarwah gets to see ‘his horse’ as well from time to time. I really feel for these ‘lads’ at times like this. Having looked after him for all these years this will be gut wrenching.
May 1, 2017 at 21:22 #1299126Thanks for that, Titus. Second your comment on the lads. The tears streaming down Sarwar’s face live long in the memory
May 1, 2017 at 22:40 #1299131Happy retirement Menorah the way you looked on Saturday I think Nathan had you down on his short list for VTC’s 10 To Follow Competition 2018
An amazing horse who achieved so much in his career, enjoy happy days at Richard Johnson’s home.
Hope his last race is now named in his honour..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 1, 2017 at 23:11 #1299144If I remember correctly Jac, Menorah made Nath’s list in a previous year.
May 1, 2017 at 23:12 #1299146Despite you being a flat man Nath, I always thought of yourself, and knew he was a favourite of yours………..I didn’t know he was one of Sam’s favourites as well. He did you proud on Saturday

May 16, 2017 at 11:55 #1301008Annie Power finally officially retired.
What a great mare she is, one of the greatest Champion Hurdlers of recent years for sure and hopefully we’ll get the chance to see some of her offspring dash around Cheltenham before too long.
