@tbracing
Totally agree about Top Notch Tonto tb one of my all time favourites and sad to see him racing at this level he so deserves his time kicking his heels in a field free from the ties of racingThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 10, 2019 at 12:14 #1465511Tb/Jac, Top Notch Tonto finally retired, which definitely seems the right call.
October 10, 2019 at 12:22 #1465512Do all horses enjoy “retirement”?
Value Is EverythingOctober 10, 2019 at 12:36 #1465516Good news Bobby
I Wish Top Notch Tonto a long and happy retirement.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 10, 2019 at 14:17 #1465524Very good question GT. While we may look forward to the days when we can put our feet up and stop worrying about work, do horses that have been bred and trained throughout their lives to race enjoy being left to wander round a field or paddock for the rest of their days.
At least some horses are trained to learn new skills, some go to stud and others become lead horses on the gallops but is it possible some horses enjoy racing regardless of whether it’s at a lower level than they used to manage?
October 12, 2019 at 21:45 #1465780Many may have seen grand old campaigner Somchine pull up after the first at Exeter on Thursday. Apparently screens were up for some time and he was taken away in the horse ambulance. Happy to report that his injury proved minor and non-life threatening. Seamus Mullins says that it has been decided to retire him anyway as “he has done enough”, adding that anyone interested in rehoming him should get in touch.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 15, 2019 at 00:00 #1467884On whether or not racehorses enjoy retirement, it probably comes down to what the horse is like and what they’re doing in retirement. Some will genuinely enjoy learning new skills (which can be anything from dressage, showing, trekking, hunting to something like police work or falconry) whereas others might not take quite so well. Most horses are quite content with a paddock retirement provided they have some company and aren’t getting bullied by more domineering horses. Plus, most racehorses get a few months off season to just mill around in a field, put on some weight and let their bodies recover so the break in routine wouldn’t come as a shock. If a horse is kept in a box with nothing to do then it would likely hate that.
October 19, 2019 at 14:01 #1470863Enjoy your retirement Donjuan, what a horse he’s been.
October 20, 2019 at 10:53 #1470973Hasn’t he VTC? I didn’t realise he was the first horse Vichai bought. So pleased to see him get his Group 1. Hopefully his progeny will inherit his durability
October 20, 2019 at 13:13 #1470981I didn’t realise that either Tonge.
I’ll definitely be taking a note of any progeny as well.

October 25, 2019 at 09:25 #1472484Best of luck to both Donjuan Triumphant and Magna Grecia in their retirements
Vichai would have been so proud of his boy last Saturday.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 28, 2019 at 17:08 #1473067Magical retired to stud
October 28, 2019 at 20:38 #1473091Happy retirement Magical, thanks for your great contribution to the season.
October 28, 2019 at 21:39 #1473093@greengrass – She was a great mare and we thoroughly enjoyed her this year. Winning Irish and British champion stakes and running creditably in arc, all within 5 weeks is great effort. As per news, No Way Never will cover her next year.
Now the question is…who will give competition to Enable next year with both her arch rivals – Crystal Ocean and Magical gone.
October 28, 2019 at 22:16 #1473097A very well deserved retirement for Magical and so pleased she is not running at Santa Anita this weekend with the ground set to be firm and the unusual number of horses breaking down badly on the track.
What a fantastic season she has had relentless from start to finish.
Enjoy your retirement lovely girl.:heart:Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... -
