Hind leg went after jumping a fence at Leicester, jockey was pushing along for a good few strides after without realising.
January 23, 2024 at 15:10 #1678268I guess the jockey wasn’t really expecting that. But what kind of r****d writes this in-running comment:
Took keen hold, in touch with leaders, bumped 2nd, headway 6th, weakened quickly and pulled up before 9th (op 25/1)?????????
Weakened quickly – is he serious about the horse weakening quickly? I bet it was still full of energy, but for the broken leg. And those Racing TV idiots are completely ignorant about an obvious swinging leg even minutes after the end of the race. Just don’t mention the dead. Why?
May he rest in peace
January 23, 2024 at 15:27 #1678270Richard Hoiles who is normally very good at keeping people updated about horses who are pulled up/fallers didn’t say anything about the injury which was very obvious.
January 24, 2024 at 02:00 #1678317“Took keen hold, in touch with leaders, bumped 2nd, headway 6th, weakened quickly and pulled up before 9th (op 25/1)”
Is that not an accurate appraisal? I suppose they could have added fatally injured, that may have kept you happy.
There’s not the space to report an in depth, analytical, frame by frame review that you so love to submit in your critical race comments.
January 24, 2024 at 02:18 #1678318Just watch the f*****g race again. The horse was full of running, but it couldn’t go further on three legs.
Commentators not discussing the obvious seem to be people trying to hide something.
January 24, 2024 at 03:56 #1678319Trying to hide what?
The horse broke a leg, it happens in horse racing, the sport has a history of it. What more is there to discuss?
Safety has been improved where possible, but apart from stopping the sport altogether, unfortunately fatalities are going to continue to happen. If people can’t handle that, then perhaps horse racing shouldn’t be their choice.
January 24, 2024 at 05:39 #1678320In running comments did used to mention fatalities, sometimes by concluding the comment with the word “dead”.
January 24, 2024 at 15:17 #1678339I think when a fatality is known about it should be mentioned in the comments. It is often still done, and there is sufficient room.
I don’t think a failure to mention this necessarily implies anyone is deliberately hiding anything, but it does suggest a lack of care and interest about the horse.

January 24, 2024 at 15:52 #1678346Why have you been reported, Marlingford?
January 24, 2024 at 16:07 #1678349Not a clue, ERL!
January 24, 2024 at 20:54 #1678400I’ve ‘unreported’ Marlingford’s post – suspect someone has reported in error (it happens now and again) as I’ve not received any complaints on it.
I remember those ‘dead’ comments CAS – always seemed to put a sad and abrupt full stop to a horse’s life/career!
