Small chip in right knee apparently
That doesn’t seem like a severe enough/too difficult to return from injury to retire a 2yo for. Huh.
October 24, 2022 at 16:03 #1619946Shame about his knee
Could they not have put a patch on it
Out and out two year old and not surprised to see him retire
Quotes for the guineas were very far fetchedWould be nice if one or two of his offspring portray some of his charm as well as talent
Who doesn’t love Blackbeard ??
Walk the plank, immediately
Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 24, 2022 at 16:05 #1619948My thoughts exactly, can’t help thinking that there is more to it than that unless they don’t think he will train on or he won’t measure up to the best they have ever had (Auguste Rodin) or their actual best 2yr old Little Big Bear.
October 24, 2022 at 16:12 #1619952Surely letting blackbeard race on with a wooden leg was an option
October 24, 2022 at 16:13 #1619953He’s a two year old,
hence running a million times
Auguste Rodin hardly seen a blade of grass
The horse has earnt enough for the team to not have to come back and potentially have a reoccurrence of the injury
Horses legs are thin and I’d hate for him to go wrong at the speed in which he travelsBlackbeard to conquer the World

His leg was already wooden
must have got wood rot
from running over in France where the going was officially firm but the actual going was waterloggedBlackbeard to conquer the World
October 24, 2022 at 16:54 #1619963And with how he behaves in his way before race he’d be at risk of doing further damage to chipped knee
Was great to see him and his ways, he did run quite alot all the way through the flat season, so already done quite alot

What a pity.
Enjoyed watching his antics.
At least he sailed the seven seas held sway across the channel and ventured over the Irish sea. Not a scurvy landlubber.October 24, 2022 at 18:49 #1619990So glad I saw him on his last outing at Newmarket last month and Nathan got his Avatar
I did comment how tired he looked after that race in the cooling down paddock and hoped he would be put away for the season and not go to the Breeder’s Cup.
Can you imagine racing on rock hard ground with that knee injury.Sad we won’t see him again on the racecourse but at least we have his progeny to look forward too.
Happy retirement to the most charismatic and totally bonkers racehorse ever. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 24, 2022 at 18:54 #1619991He’s a valuable commodity so they won’t be taking unnecessary risks with him. Shame though as it is always good to have characters about.
October 24, 2022 at 19:00 #1619994Many are in an Egyptian river (denial) about the changing nature of Flat racing.
Precocity and speed are twin Kings in an era where bottomless “ancien regime” wealth with endless patience has been replaced by brasher “nouveau rich” wealth with no patience at all
Breeders know there is a premium on fast precocious 2yos and at three it’s more about 1m-1m2f than 1m4f.
Expect any modern Derby winner to revert to 1m2f unless it’s already won a Guineas en route to Epsom.
I can believe Blackbeard really did get an injury, but I bet given his profile and pedigree it wasn’t the toughest decision they ever had to make.
Really likeable talented colt – I’m sure he will be in high demand and get a lot of fast 2yo winners.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 24, 2022 at 19:01 #1619995Let’s hope he covers a suitably named mare (pity Goldikova is no longer with us) so that we can see one of his offspring named Gold Digger.
October 24, 2022 at 19:04 #1619996October 24, 2022 at 19:05 #1619997He has that look about him…the cocked jaw
October 24, 2022 at 21:24 #1620023Thats a great photo of everbodys favourite pirate. Such a pity we wont see him again. Hes why we love racing. Looking forward to see what names owners come up with. I can think of a few daft ones. I think he will get loads of winners and if he gets top mares could be hugely exciting. Bye captain and thanks for the memories.
October 24, 2022 at 21:41 #1620029I guess after realizing how good Auguste Rodin is, the decision to retire Blackbeard was almost a logical one.
Good luck at stud, Captain!
