You might as well say it’s selfish to enjoy racing altogether. We’re watching horses stretched to their limits, maybe risking their health and life simply for our pleasure.
That’s racing. So you can’t really single anyone out and waggle your finger at them for being sad that one particular horse will never thrill us again. Yes I’m sure we’re all relieved she’s retired sound but of course it’s a shame we’ve no longer got the pleasure of watching a horse such as her and Frankel again.Where am I pointing a finger or singling anybody out?
I’m simply expressing an opinion or is that not allowed in the post-Diana era where anyone who does not wear their heart on their sleeve, accompanied by (in)appropriate emotional outbursts is considered abnormal?

Let’s have a group hug everyone. Sign a book of condolence.
We’ve all been on a journey…

April 18, 2013 at 09:30 #436604Don’t worry Paul and Mike, post-Diana has been replaced by post-Maggie so let’s all have a group scrum and sign a book of indifference

a long day’s journey into night
April 18, 2013 at 12:23 #436629Picnic In The Park won 21 straight over here in the 80’s he raced mainly in the country and provincial circuit. He was good enough to win group races, those 21 wins were within the space of 6 months! He won 2 races on one day at the Gold Coast, his half brother Street Cafe was a dual Group 1 winner and ran second in a Cox Plate.Going for his 22nd straight win at Rockhampton he was 8 lenghts in front at the furlong going half pace when he shattered his sesamoid, they did save him though. So you never know from day to day in racing.
April 18, 2013 at 20:42 #436687I was sad to hear of her retirement, as connections had been raving about what great shape she was in only a few days before, so I was sure there were more fantastic races to come. She was a sporting hero in Australia, and as a half-Aussie myself, she was especially important to me (and to my Aussie mum).
I’m glad she retired with her unbeaten record intact, it will be a long time until we see a sprinter as classy and consistent as her. I hope she will have a good life as a broodmare, but the memories of fellow Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy’s death during foaling, and Rachel Alexandra’s post-foaling problems are fresh in my mind.
April 19, 2013 at 17:22 #436760Sorry, not au fait with the details. Did anyone like a journalist bother to ask why now? It clearly looks like a truncated campaign.
Wonder how much Coral’s made on this from their Ascot special
