Could only happen in Ireland

<br>Not quite.  I remember pitching up at Cagnes-sur-Mer for some trotting many years ago.
The starter began to shuffle them under the barrier only when some steward staggered down from his dinner to ring a handbell.  The races were timed as such:
aperitif<br>post-aperitif<br>pre-hors d’oeuvres<br>post-hors d’oevres<br>pre-dejeuner<br>post-dejeuner<br>pre-dessert<br>post-dessert<br>digestif
They bore not the slightest resemblance to any times printed in the papers and the gaps between the races got progressively longer.
The whole show seemed hugely civilised and rather liquid (in every sense).

May 5, 2007 at 08:22 #56956I dont know what went wrong but atr had the result up 3 minutes before the race was due to start.<br>I did not have any interest inthe race but should itbe declared void under current rules?

The rule was changed quite rightly some years ago seagull to avoid void races in the event the starter was a few seconds premature, not 4 minutes but it still applies in this case. I would like to see some sort of punishement given to the starter for this major incompetence, is he a fit person to be starting races?
May 5, 2007 at 10:25 #56960Was there not a race at Galway 2 years ago that went about 6 mins early?
Correct decision is made now imo to not void the race. There was a good few in my local who raced to the hole to bet the fav and got on after 2 furlongs and then when it was beat they were crying for void race, talk about looking for best of both worlds.

Agree with you to a certain extent Money on, but what if you were one of the punters who was going to back the winner who took an extra sup out of his pint then gets up to go to the bookies next door and find the result is already in would you be sick or what ?
"Could only happen in Ireland Yeats"<br>What about the Grand National that never was, happened in England I think ?
May 5, 2007 at 10:42 #56964I meant my local bookies
May 5, 2007 at 10:50 #56967Well i like to go between :cheesy:
May 5, 2007 at 10:52 #56969Looks like Lyons has a very decent animal on his hands Trackside in Remind me Monday.

Didn’t start early though did it madman <br>As money on correctly states there was one previously at Galway which lends credence to my theory it could only happen over there
The main problem we have here as well as in Ireland is actually starting the races which is partly down to procedure and partly down to incompetent starters.
May 5, 2007 at 11:03 #56973The early starting of races is practically systematic in America, and I’ve never understood why.
And some starters are possibly the biggest buffoons in racing!
