Apparently there is to be a review following 6 equine fatalities at Cheltenham.
Any views ?March 16, 2018 at 23:47 #1347230I don’t know whether there were any fatalities here but the fence coming down the hill towards the straight needs to be moved, as does the second last. That needs to be further away from the final bend. And have the last closer to the finish to compensate

6 deaths across 28 races is simply appalling.
March 17, 2018 at 01:20 #1347249Remove all the fences. Make the Gold Cup a 3 1/4 mile bumper.
Yes, that should do it.
March 17, 2018 at 13:32 #1347334This is what they always do when you have that number of fatalities. It was just a horrible end to an otherwise great Festival with three fatalities in the last. The ground was just too bad towards the end of the day and the pace was suicidal. The fence that claimed North Hill Harvey is a very tricky one because of the speed you’re approaching it at and also due to the fact that everyone’s looking for a good position when approaching the straight.
What worries me even more is that the Mullins/Walsh clan are allowed to beat the crap out of their mounts and get away with victories and a few small fines and bans. If you breach the rules – and that is what they’ve done otherwise there would be no fine/ban – you have to be demoted. That’s how simple it is, you lose the race.
Deckie Johnson hit Native River 10-15 times, I think (maybe I’m wrong) and got away with a six-day ban and 7k fine.
How are you going to attract new racegoers if breaching the rules is tolerated even at the highest level? Stewards should have had the guts to reverse the first two in the Gold Cup….
