    Dear Punters,

The British Horseracing Authority has launched a Tipping Competition for this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

The winning punter stands to net a £500 first prize for the most correct ante-post selections in the 9 major races:

    • Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
    • Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase
    • Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy
    • RSA Steeple Chase
    • Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase
    • Ryanair Chase
    • Ladbrokes World Hurdle
    • JCB Triumph Hurdle
    • totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase

Winning selections are awarded points based on their starting price (e.g. a 10/1 winner is worth 10 points) and the punter with the most points after the Gold Cup will scoop the prize.

In addition the competition provides you with the chance to pit your wits against some Celebrity punters, who have put their pride and racing knowledge on the line in an attempt to win £500 for the charity of their choice.

Harry Redknapp, Lawrence Dallaglio, Jilly Cooper, Mick Fitzgerland, Ed Dunlop, Jodie Kidd, Cornelius Lysaght and Matt Holland are all competing to be the top celebrity punter, but also hoping to beat all you guys!

Entry to the competition is completely free, simply visit http://www.britishhorseracing.com/go…_tipping_comp/ and input your selections before midnight 9th March.

Who do you think are the value picks for these races that could win you the prize? Feel free to discuss your selections or keep them top secret!

    Regards
    British Horseracing Authority

Cheers BHA. Have had a wee go for fun.

    Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

    Copper Bleu

I really fancy Ainama in this race, but Copper Bleu enters the race as a bit of an unknown ata reasonable price. Was beaten at doncaster by Master Of Arts, a far speedier horse, just as Celestial halo was beaten in the same race last year by the speedier Sentry Duty, should be better around cheltenham

Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase

    Followtheplan

Should be favorite IMO with Imsingingtheblues second favorite. IMO the best horse in the line up.

Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy

    Won In The Dark

A very hard race to pick, should be a fast pace, which makes everything a bit of an unknown, Celestial Halo should go well, and the only thing I can see beating him is the ground being drier than he wants, either way I think Won In the Dark will be on the premises.

    RSA Steeple Chase

    What A Friend

Nicholls reckons this is a future gold cup horse in the making. Why not?

Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase

    Master Minded

I dont think it’s a question of whather he’ll win this years champ chase, but how many more champ chases will he win 4? 5? The best horse in training, would be an epic tragedy if he werent to win.

    Ryanair Chase

    Voy Por Ustedes

Looks a penalty kick IMO, cant see anything beating him.

    Ladbrokes World Hurdle

    Punchestowns

Looked like a special horse in the long walk, dont expect he was fully fired up in the cleeve hurdle, should be hard to beat.

    JCB Triumph Hurdle

    Zaynar

Could be beat, but is the one to beat in the triumph.

totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase

    Neptune Collonges

Just watching this horse this season I cant help but think he is better than he was last season, kauto and denamn havent looked as good this season as last season, may aswell have a go on him I think, doesnt need to front run with Denman and Madison Du Berlais in the field so could go very well.

Sounds like a good comp…and seeing as I cant lose any money, lol, here are my selections.

Supreme Novices Hurdle = Red Moloney
Won a few naff hurdles at my local track but impressed with jumping ability. Had good ability on the flat and is a sporting go. Copper Bleu would be a second selection.

    Arkle Chase = Forpadydeplasterer
Quite keen on this one. Likes better ground than he has had this season and stays more than 2m. Kalahari King would be my second choice.

    Champion Hurdle = Harchibald
The most likely winner is Binocular but as this is a comp based on points per SP then I’ll risk a longer priced one. Harchibald might just get decent ground and will do. Katchit would be the other as regardless he is overpriced.

    RSA Chase = Killyglen
Howard Johnson has sounded very complimentary about Killyglen, and with this race sometimes going to an outsider, I’ll take a chance. Trafford Lad would be an alternative.

    Champion Chase = Well Chief
Master Minded should win but again what is point choosing him to get 0.33 points!!!! Lets hope for him tipping up and Well Chief taking advantage, lol!

    Ryanair Chase = Monet’s Garden
Again, Voy Por Ustedes will take all the beating but from value point of view will take Monet’s Garden. Tidal Bay would be a second choice but bit worried about that knock he has.

    World Hurdle = Mighty Man
Recurring theme here, but Kasbah Bliss looks worthy favourite. But will seek the value in Mighty Man. Another outsider would be Tazbar.

    Triumph Hurdle = Walkon
Probably the one race where I cant be sure who will turn up due to other entries…ie Torphicen. So I will choose a confirmed runner in Walkon.

    Gold Cup = Exotic Dancer
Based on his run of two years ago then fact is he is over priced. Should get a run for my "money" at least.

So thats your lot! That 9 would make one hell of an accumulator, lol!
