Poor Betty Baloo who has a fabulous record (16 wins/placings in 18 races)and had never fallen took an awful fall at the very first at Market Rasen. Jockey William Easterby been taken to hospital. The race was declared void as Betty must have got up injured and somehow got further down the course where she was being attended to … It all sounds horrendous and coming so soon after the Chester incident … condolences to all who loved and cared for her and hope William recovers well …
May 10, 2024 at 16:38 #1693741Just heard about the dreadful news. The Racing Post doesn’t know what happened yet, as there are no in-running comments to that race. Maybe they don’t have any representatives at the tracks.
She was such a consistent horse, always finished her races and loved Market Rasen.
May she rest in peace
May 10, 2024 at 16:45 #1693743I’d just started watching the race on WHill when I saw them stopping the race and was dreading seeing her name here. Fingers crossed for William. What a dreadful day for the Easterbys.
May 10, 2024 at 16:55 #1693745I was watching and she was at the back, went right down sideways on her shoulder – like she didn’t get the undercarriage out … could be seen struggling to get up … desperately hoped she was OK …
May 10, 2024 at 17:05 #1693746The race was void so there won’t be any comments in running. Sounds just awful.
May 10, 2024 at 18:51 #1693752They have in-running comments even for such events:
“Held up in rear, fell 1st, fatally injured, race voided (tchd 3/1)”
May 10, 2024 at 19:38 #1693756Usual gore merchants on twitter report 4 in total at Market Rasen today. RIP.
May 10, 2024 at 22:04 #1693774Broken leg but carried on and jumped the last fence. Absolute horror show at Market Rasen today.
May 11, 2024 at 20:36 #1693987She was a home bred too … and surely would have been a good mare to breed from …
May 11, 2024 at 20:46 #1693990She’d been off for almost a year. I wondered if they had tried to breed from her?
