Ha, I wish…sorry I haven’t been on for a while my internet was broken. I have missed looking at the site and I am glad I have got it back for Royal Ascot.

In reading all of the tips and advice it is interesting on how different people sum up different types of betting. This includes me. After winning big on Kauto Star in the gold cup and Cockney Rebel in both guineas I have come to some conclusions of my own.

As everybody knows a gambler will tell you endless stories about their wins but never talk about their losses. After going to my 1st ever stable visit (Lambourn Open Day) and looking around stables and hearing what trainers thought, I became quite swerved by what they were saying. After going to my first yard which I must say was the best I went to (Pat Murphy) I had a tip. Pat said to have a pound on Salute, the next day.

I saw the horse do a light canter around Pat’s training facilities and was impressed. What struck me with Pat was the fact his stable worked as a team. I now always look out for his runners and consider betting them. Even though Salute was beat coming up to the line and lost me and a few friends quite a lot of money.

It was running in a Class 5 Race. A few weeks later, I saw a horse of John Gosden’s at odds on. I didn’t think it could be beat so like a fool I had a fair punt on it. Only for it to get blocked in and eventually come second.

Now I lay out about £10 every Saturday and I seem to be able to pick more winners in national hunt races. Today I had a bet on a horse which again was odds on (Cape Stormer) which won. I have realised in reading the site for the 1st time in a couple of months were I am going wrong in my opinion.

Why back horses that are running in Class 6 Claimers at Southwell, who run against each other week in week out and theres always a different winner, when you can have a small sensible bet at a weekend for sport and save up for the big meetings.

The morning cockney rebel won the 2,000 guineas, I had a feeling, I thought no it’s just a name but when I heard the trainers views I was straight down the bookies. It won that day and I was chuffed, but as usual I spent most of it on Class 6 races.

I think I should enjoy my racing, keep an eye out for up and coming horses and enjoy a bet at big meetings, because you know every horse is running to win. I have had some success with this as I previously stated. I will give it a go at Royal Ascot and see what I have learned. I have set myself a £80 budget which I shall use as I see fit. But the most I will put on one horse is 50% of my funds.

If all goes to plan, I will carry on with this only backing horses I really fancy in big races and having a sporting bet on a Saturday. I really fancy Cockney Rebel in a double with George Washington but after reading peoples opinions you can get put off. But I shall see. Ill post my bets day by day.

    Happy Punting

Young Mick…that’s a very interesting post. It’s clear you have put a lot thought into your betting and are well on the way to discovering a happy medium in your approach to punting which suits you (sir) both psychologically and financially.

Personally I would claim there is as much fun to had from this game by simply enjoying the spectacle and intrigue along with the gossip and anticipation of a weekends racings or from following the progess of a few personal favourites. For example, mine tend to be from the Simon Earl yard, who I believe is a very good trainer with a very interesting and innovative approach to training. In this game betting isn’t the be all and end all, it’s about having fun and being selective and sensible and most importantly enjoying being involved in the only show in town.

    Good luck at Royal Acot.<br>

Okay, my banker of the festival on the 1st day. He’s got me out of trouble twice this year. The other was a good horse at Epsom and won me some money there.
