Following sandown and the heavy tipping (ignorec here) in some quarters for (the likeable)ben Doran and call me lord, a theory

Horses that show a piece or two of old form show them in just flashes and it’s rarely sustained

This isn’t quite the same as my other strategy of resolutely ignoring horses that are “he’s on a good mark now!” After 20 horrendous runs but similar

Could liken it to Someone on their deathbed who gets those suddenly energised days leaping around the ward before croaking, but I suppose that’s a little tasteless

This is where we miss nick Mordin. I’m not a systems punter at all but his analysis was always decent

    Thoughts?

I don’t tend to back older horses that have been on the wain only to show the odd glimmer. It’s rare they return to their peak level, even with help from the handicapper.

However, recent form doesn’t bother me with certain trainers. A Gordon Elliott horse ran today with ‘000’ in his last 3 runs – Call Me Lyreen duly won at 20/1.

Would have been nice if this had been pointed out before the race!
Mind you I wouldn’t have taken any notice, as I never do.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highways

I’d say it depends on what yard the horse is in too , there,s a few trainers who love the ” once a year win when the money’s down ” prob more so on the all weather
