BOBBY EWING To win is my tip here he beat Menorah very easy i know that has improved but this horse now in the hands of Pipe can get a horse off a long break.
    .

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking, he’s a horse I rate highly and I’ve been waiting patiently for his return. I rarely bet in Handicaps but he looks thrown in to me.

Might be one for an EW at The Festival too, 100/1 on offer for both The Champion & World Hurdles, he’s not going to win either obviously, those two trophies are probably engraved already.

With the weather as it is I don’t want to get involved yet. Any ante-post bet will continue on to the rearanged race (if run at Newbury like it was last year). Ground and targets could change. Any bet after the final decs (Thursday morning) won’t go on to the rearanged race.

Will that include bets on the machine Ginge or do they void the race and form a new market?

Just heard on TFR that Paul Nichols said he wan’t even sure if Zarkandar has improved since last year. When he says something like that I worry because, at times, he reminds me of a double glazing salesman

When he does I feel he’s more or less saying this horse isn’t going to win anything but dresses it up to prepare the owner for one big disappointment..

Right now I’m thinking Zarkandar ain’t going to win – I just spent mine and the fiancé’s bills money on him :? Something good can’t come of this!!

Nicholls keeps stating that this is Zarkandar’s prep race for the Champion hurdle….he could easily hose up off this mark, but when the trainer keeps stating it’s a prep race, I wouldn’t be confident putting my money down.

Got my tickets for saturday. not much of a betting day but some cracking horses to get a look at. Really looking forward to it. in particular Sprinter and Long Run.

Supreme trial will be a corker too. Cannot wait.

Empire Levant and Third Intention do the business boys!!!

When Nichols start saying thing like this is not his target I worry.

Considering he’s got 10st12lbs and Persian War carried 11st13 to victory prior to winning the CH you’de think PN would be very very bullish if he really thought this horse was CH standard.

I doubt if he’s even good enough to win this tbh

Not sure our opinions are going to matter much. It’s looking like Newbury, along with the rest of Saturday’s racing, other than Naas and the dreaded all weather, is looking very doubtful.

Anyone know the exact rules of ante post betting if the meeting is cancelled, (ie money back) or even worse re-arranged as I’m sure their rules will come into play and the market reformed as no doubt not all horses would run if re-arranged, and all value if any would have long gone.

    Hi Jamie

Looks pretty sure to be abandoned. If it is postponed to another day, and the overnight declarations stand, then bets stand. If the original overnight declarations do not stand, then bets will be void, a new market will be formed and you get your money back.

Obviously if it is cancelled and not rearranged, you get your money back.

    Jamie,
As I understand it with abandonments:
If you have an ante-post bet it is only continued on to the rearanged race

    IF

it is still run at the SAME course and distance and the race has not been re-opened to new runners. If not at the original venue then punters get their money back anyway.

    However,
    Once

    FINAL DECLARATIONS

are known (I believe it is Thursday 11:00 am in this case) bets are counted as "day of race" (not ante-post). NO bets are continued, even if the rearanged race is over SAME course and distance. I only found this out last year in this race, when Corals (rightly) cancelled my Thursday bets. Where as I had to fight to get my Thursday bets on the Irish Hennessy back from Stan James (did eventually). So be careful, some bookmakers don’t seem to know their own rules.

I don’t know whether betfair are any different.

There is a certain amount of ambiguity in the rules which leaves it open to translation. An ante-post bet is usually for an event on a described day. If the event does not take place on that day, then the customer, providing his selection was still entered in the race, would have the option of a refund or letting the bet stand on the re-scheduled event providing it met the conditions described by Ginger.
The important thing is to check with your bookmaker before the running of the re-scheduled race to confirm your wishes.

Let’s just call it the Schweppes for old times sake, was always race where someone would fancy there chances of landing a touch

Captain Ryan Price set the scene winning the first 5 runnings with Rosyth (2), Hill House, Elan and Le Vermontois all of whom were backed like money had gone out of fashion.

He went very close to winning it for a 6th time on the trot when his Major Rose finished a close second to Persian War.

Some real touches have been landed since with horses like Bootlaces who seemed out of form at the time but the money came late he beat Fred Winter’s strongly fancied Snowtown Boy.

Within the Law was backed of course more than on course’ He was the first leg of of a famous treble landed by the then travelling head lad Mick Lambert which set him up as a trainer

More recently Get Me Out of Here landed a touch for JP and others like Wingman, Rodeo Star and Deep Sensation did more than make their connections smile.

Finding one that’s been laid out for this doesn’t look easy.

Lucy Waldham makes no secret of the fact her Alarasi was n where near fit last time and she’d laid the horse out for this so if he turns up he will no doubt run a better race than he did last time.

However the horse that really catches the eye is Colin Tizzards Third Intentions.

Some very good judges including one of Timeform’s most knowledgeable pundits thought he could win last season’s Triumph hurdle.

It’s safe to say he ran his worst race of the season that day finishing 9 3/4 lengths behind Zarkandar.

He returned to Cheltenham in April and absolutely hacked up by 10 lengths.

This season he’s been slowly coming to form and he’s 9lbs better off with Zarkandar. Normaly that might `not be enough but considering he ran below par up to par he could easily cause an upset

Thought i was the only one who had noted third intentions credentials. Jumps the hurdles superb gaining lengths ateach one. His run up with the pas when about 6/7th to brampour was fantastic. all the others up front died a death yet he was still there after the last. He has matured and is getting better.

There is no guarantee that the triumph horses progress at the same rate and many just don’t especially the flat bred types. This is one reason along with the negative vibes and short price to take on the favourite.

If Zarkandar is a champion horse I would want him to stuff Empire Levant like rock on Ruby did at newbury. Especially of 11 stone 1. Rock on Ruby was on 11st 12. MONSTER. Best performance of the season other than the hurricane.

Third Intention will give his running and i like him immensely.

Talking of The Schweppes and Bootlaces….

    Page 15 gives the card

I probably backed my old favourite Walnut Wonder in the race.

I’m glad to see a few posts on here mentioning third intention as i like him a lot-skips over his hurdles quickly and fluently and has a bit of a tough streak to him just watch the run in in the triumph last year to battle his way into 7th when he a lesser horse could’ve been beaten into 10th or 11th :) !
