Can any Betfair member help with some advice, please.
I’ve just joined Betfair, the only reason was to take the ludicrous 28-1 on offer for Profound Beauty for The Yorkshire Oaks.
Am I missing something???? As far as I can see it looks as if I can only have a fiver at that price, £4 at 25-1 and any more at only 10-1?
Also, I get a free bet to match my first bet up to £25 so it seems stupid not to have the full £25 on the one horse.Maybe some wants to lay me odds to £25?
Or Mary Spring Rice tomorrow night to £25?August 12, 2010 at 14:50 #312412Would wait till tomorrow to back Mary Spring Rice CS – unlikely you’ll be able to get the full £25 on any time before tomorrow morning and doubtful you’d get it on even then given the liquidity on Irish racing is to be blunt very poor.
If there’s anything you like today would have it on that – the Betfair rules are all Ante-Post too on races like the Yorkshire Oaks so if Profound Beauty doesn’t run you won’t get a refund.
That’s right regarding the staking – little liquidity on the Ante-Post markets.
August 12, 2010 at 14:55 #312414Thanks IS
Is there a way on Betfair for me to find someone on who is prepared to lay me, lets say 25-1 to £25 Profound Beauty
August 12, 2010 at 14:57 #312415If you put up £25 @ 26.0 say and leave it up there then it might get matched bit by bit or by someone wanting to lay the mare for whatever reason but that would be the only way around it.
Might be worth posting on their "Ante-Post" forum to see if anyone is interested in laying her (after you’ve put your bet up of course).
August 12, 2010 at 15:03 #312418Or, if you put the £25 up you might find someone lays all of it half an hour before she’s withdrawn.
August 12, 2010 at 15:09 #312420OK I put £25 at 26-1 got matched to £6 odd at 31-1 do I leave the rest up to see what happens?
Sorry for being such a greenhorn

There is indeed that risk too Corm.
August 12, 2010 at 15:15 #312423Given there’s very little rain forecast up to York next week, and the clerk there is a proper pro, I’d say there’s every chance Profound Beauty won’t run.
Keep your money.
August 12, 2010 at 15:20 #312425It’s tipping down up here and is supposed to be moving south, anyway even if she doesn’t run its a "free bet" as I get a bet to match for free just for signing up.
Mrs CS, normally my betting handbrake, wants me to "put the house" on at that sort of price but I’m no fan of Ante Post and I think I’ll be more prudent and wait till the day and go EW, she can’t be out of the 1-2-3August 12, 2010 at 18:44 #312466It’s tipping down up here and is supposed to be moving south, anyway even if she doesn’t run its a "free bet" as I get a bet to match for free just for signing up.

Chelters, Hypocrisy is not a 2yo owned by the "Royal Ascot Racing Club"!

It’s a combination of the mare being MrsCS’s favourite horse, silly odds on the Odds Comparison site and the free £25 bet if my first bet loses that tempted me. It wasn’t until I signed up and transferred some cash that I found out the price was only available to spare change.
If you are so sure she won’t run, why not match what’s left of my bet, perhaps you could make a sentance using the words…..
Put, money, where, your, is, mouth, your
I know you won’t take offence, none is intended!
PS Dermot Weld is to me what Dandy Nicholls is to you, I did love Soba though and his missus was a very decent jockey and the combo was red hot in late evening sprints as I recall

I do take offence Chelters but only from those who think they know about horseracing but actually know very little, they all know who they are and you are not one of them! Your filly really wants 1m6f and i think she would be a good thing for the Irish St Leger if

I can see why you think 14f is ideal for, I’d be inclined to agree but she’s very pacey for a stayer and after seeing win from the front last time out over 12 furlongs in a hack canter and a fast time I think 12 furlongs at York, left handed, would be ideal. (OK the opposision wasn’t up to much at Leopardstown but she was far more impressive than Fame And Glory was in a similar grade field)
The mare isn’t fazed by making her own running if the pace isn’t fast enough and Pat Smullen is the master of piling it on from the front. .
My only concern would be the going not the opposition, this mare could win The Arc this year, it will not be won by a 3-Y-Old that’s for sure, I’ve been saying all season that they are poor in comparison to recent years, see today’s Racing Post for statistics to back up my opinion.
Your pal, Dick Turpin in the Juddmonte may be just an exceptionAugust 12, 2010 at 19:25 #312477not bad CS, 2 or 3 bites.
Want to pick up the slack, Barry?

There was a very valid excuse for her one defeat this year, (well two) I’ve not heard one yet for Workforce’s total capitulation in The KG
