Looks like being an good race. I personally fancy Twist Magic (Im presuming Master Minded wont run) seems to like Sandown, I’d have his main danger as Kalahari King but with him having ran at both Chelters and Aintree think that may have taken a bit out of him.

The biggest clue could be to wait and see who Ruby rides, with Oumeyade, Twist Magic and Andreas who won the race last year all declared.

    Currently declared are:

    1 112121 Kalahari King (FR) 21 11 – 6
    2 112-111 Master Minded (FR) 45 11 – 6
    3 61-4F6F Twist Magic (FR) 45 11 – 6
    4 21-57PF Andreas (FR) 7 11 – 2
    5 104-P35 Enlightenment (IRE) 23 11 – 2
    6 4-01111 Fix The Rib (IRE) 56 11 – 2
    7 234736 Mahogany Blaze (FR) 45 11 – 2
    8 23F211 Oh Crick (FR) 23 11 – 2
    9 215113 Oumeyade (FR) 119 11 – 2
    10 0-10518 Santa’s Son (IRE) 45 11 – 2
    11 U11-640 Vinmix De Bessy (FR) 23 11 – 2
    12 U23044 She’s Humble (IRE) 13 10 – 9

One thing is for certain the Twist Magic you will see tomorrow is not the Twist Magic who went to Cheltenham, wasn’t fit, wasn’t off a yard and was so far behind when he fell PN should have been pulled up to explain why for the second year has this horse ran so badly in the same race.

Don’t worry it’s pet hate of mine but he really does get away with murder at times.

Of course Twist Magic will be spot on and bound to go close but I think Ferdy will have a plan that will take Twist Magic out of his comfort zone and into "I don’t stay 2 miles" land. The ground will help Twist Magic which is a slight worry, but I’m confident Ferdy has the tools to do it

It’s piggy bank time for me and getting stuck into Kalahari King who owes me not a coin.

not exactly sure what you’re insinuating here Fist, but what possible mileage is there in a trainer not having a horse primed for their biggest race of the year? And I don’t want to hear anything about him laying the horse, that would be science fiction of Spielberg proportions. Paul Nicholls has too much to lose to try and knowingly decieve the public in such a high profile race.

The last twice that Twist Magic’s run, he’s lost the race before he started – refusing to start at Kempton and then throwing Sam Thomas off in front of the stands and being extremely reluctantly going to post at Cheltenham. Bit of a cliche, but seems like he’s fallen out of love with the game and if he shows anything like that same temperament before tomorrow’s race you can draw stumps on any chance he has then and there. In terms of ability he’s a very good horse on his day, certainly superior to anything Kalahari King’s shown us thus far

I wouldn’t think for one minute PN would lay any horse so let’s put that to bed for starters.

What I am saying is he knows the horse wouldn’t win at Cheltenham in a top class race with a rocket tied to his ass and uses it as part of his prep for this or last year Ireland.

He didn’t hide the fact either when interviewed prior to the QMCC 2007. He was asked just before the race what he thought the horses chances were and he stated "He’d be more of an Aintree type and might go there or to Ireland after this"

In the race itself (If you don’t have a recording I would be happy to send it to you) Twist Magic set of in 3rd and was going very easily with Sam sitting moitionless. He gardually loses a little bit of ground and by the 4th last after MM had gone to the front Sam still hasn’t done a thing to encourage the horse to get closer. After the 4th last depite still being within shooting distance of Shchindlers Hunt and New Mill who are being ridden vigourously Sam sits motionless and lets the horse come home in his own time.

Quite frankly they knew the horse had no chance of getting the trip, had Ireland on their minds and no way was Sam going to give him a hard race.

The rules say you must ride a horse to gain the best possible position. If Sam was doing that then I’m a Dutchman as they say.

I am certainly not talking through my pocket as my biggest bet of the season was on Master Minded.Mind you if I had backed Twist Magic EW and many did I wouldn’t have been very happy with that lacklustre effort.

Twist Magic was a complete boil over at cheltenham! they done well just to get him out of the paddock let alone onto the race course. Absolute nonsence that Nicholls didn’t have him ready and they weren’t trying. He is a bloody rouge and races if he feels like it. He was disgusting at Kempton prior to that also and very nearly refused to start. He’s a horse with huge temperment issues and only races when he feels like it, shame because he has talent but it’s a simple fact you’ll never know when he wants to race. Whats the point if Sam Thomas beating him up when he doesn’t even want to be there, thats going discourage him even more and he’d eventually throw in the towel for good.

Khalahari King i expect to win tomorrow, he’s got bags of class and he’s done me well personally this year, I would be hoping for more than 6/5 though so I won’t be backing him.

Maybe an exaggeration Equitrack, naughty would have been a better choice. He was very reluctant to race at Kempton and then even worse at Cheltenham.

IF he is not tempermental tomorrrow he would go close, he has BAGS of ability, but, i think he is somewhere near the end of his tether with this jumps game.

I wouldn’t be so quick to write him off, tbracing. His runs at Kempton and Cheltenham leave plenty to the imagination, but his prior effort at Sandown surely has him mixing it with the likes of Kalahari King? There was, after all, only one horse travelling better than him when he came down and that was Master Minded.

If he’s on song, he’s a good thing.

TB, I don’t mind people disagreeing with me but let’s have a bet here. First of I bet you never read my thread properly as no way did Twist Magic boil over before the 2007 QMCC and I would also give you any price you like you never went back and had a look at the 2007 race before posting.

40 years I have been watching racing and it annoys the hell out of me when some pup tries to tell me a horse is doing his best when he blatantly wasn’t. I suggest you do go and watch the race. Then point out to me at which stage Sam Torrence made any effort whatsoever to get him into the race before coming on here shouting your mouth off about me talking nonsense.

You should perhaps be asking how come he had already beaten VPU of levels yet couldn’t get within 30 lengths of the horse. Then he went to Ireland and was backed of the boards. Awful lot of money for a horse who couldn’t raise a gallop in his previous race in which he was supposidly 100% fit.

Make no mistake Twist Magic will be spot on tomorrow as sure as he wasn’t at Cheltenham. Whether he plays up or not I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t run a cracker.

My oversight there then Fists I apologize, you win both those bets, I just remember you saying it after the race this year on a thread somewhere and jumped in a bit quickly thinking you were on about this year again, once again my apologies.

That said I’m not convinced he wasn’t trying for the 07 QMCC just like I’m not convinced he wasn’t trying for this year QMCC. For whatever he doesn’t appear to be at his best at Cheltenham, but as for not having him straight for the biggest 2 mile chase of the season and not trying, you’ll have to sell that to someone else.

Equitrack, I more than believe he can mix it with Kalahari King, if he wants to, but thats my problem with him. If I were to want to bet Twist Magic it would be as close to the off as I could to make sure he doesn’t pull any tricks, but, he is in my wouldn’t back with stolen money pile for now. I doubt i’ll be bettting in it as my school of thought goes at the moment.

There is no doubting Twist Magic was going well that day but I reckon Ruby had abslolute bundles up his sleeve and wouldn’t pay too much attention to it. Not one of the others who stood up that day has won this season since or even came close. It has come to light Tidal Bay has a back problem which could explain his poor perforamance that day.

I wonder how PN will play this if he thinks Twist Magic is his best chance of winning this race. The only chance Oumeyade would seem to have is to go off at a rate of knotts and try and take the sting out of TM and KK’s tails. The problem is if it’s very fast TM might not last out the trip and stop like he did when pipes horse exposed to those tactics at Ascot albeit on soft ground.

If he sets a slow/steady pace I would have thought Kalahari King would do TM for toe.He showed plenty of speed on this type of ground when he won the AON Hurdle.

Ferdy is a great thinker and he will be wise to anything PN throws his way. If the pace has been strong and both the principles are still going well in the latter stages it wouldn’t suprise me if KK kicks for home around two out and brings stamina into play.

We’re on opposite sides ofthe fence here as I think no matter what PN comes up with Kalahari King is a good thing.

Whats your thoughts on Mahogany Blaze?

Ran a couple of times under the dreaded Twiston Davies black cloud. I think its another tall order but he must be glad to not be see the rear of Master Mind for a change. Didn’t really get involved in the QMCC i thought and may stand more of a chance in this smaller field.

He’d be my outside alternative to Kalahari King personally, but in truth i’m a big fan of KK

Twist Magic what a little bugger he is. Top class today, behaved perfectly, travelled like a dream non stayer my a***.

Didn’t have a penny on him typically.

Kalahari King ran flat had enough for the season by the looks of it.
