Which bookmaker websites are the best and why? Which are the worst?
I’m just looking to find out which sites are the most accessible, reliable and informative for you – not looking for debate about which ones have tiny testicles when it comes to taking a bet, close accounts when you win a fiver etc.
You all know I’m biased here, so my opinion is not worth much, but I really like the sites with written content along with the main events. William Hill is partnered with Opta for sports statistics and facts for their site/social media and I often find their little nuggets helpful. Their site isn’t the most pretty and can be a bit of an information overload, but I like the intellectual tone.
Even before I went to the dark side, I liked Coral’s site for similar reasons.
As for the worst, I’d have to nominate Bet365. I find their site navigation confusing and think it takes too many clicks to get where you want to be.
October 27, 2014 at 23:51 #493637Best Paddy Power everything is a click or two away. (though the amount of times it crashes especially on big betting days needs to be addressed).
Worst Ladbrokes jerky, constant pop up promotions, they still use the annoying transfer from wallets and now have a reverse withdraw.
October 28, 2014 at 00:06 #493638My favourite has to be Paddy Power, offer best odds guaranteed on most races, especially Saturday. You can deposit as little as a fiver, to start, unlike Hills and Ladbrokes but must have a minimum of ten pounds before withdrawing. Also lots of races with extra places for each way backers.
Worst in my opinion is Betfair whose site crashes when trying to bet in running on big races like Grand National, you can only have tnree cards registered at any one time, and if that card withdrawl is less tban it’s deposit, then you can’t amend or change it once your card has expired.
October 28, 2014 at 06:54 #493641Bet365 lets you watch the race live if you bet just 50p. Simple to use. Quick pay out of winnings to your bank account. Based in Stoke-on-Trent. Good for the local economy. Help ‘chat’ box. I like Bet365
October 28, 2014 at 09:30 #493644Corals and Ladbrokes are both terrible for differing reasons.
With Corals it takes at least 3 attempts to validate your username and password and even when you manage to log in, it’s a 50/50 chance that when you try and add a selection to your betslip that it works. Which involves you then going through the tortuous process of trying to log back in and trying again.
You must allow yourself at least 15 minutes before the race starts to actually get your bet on.As for Ladbrokes, its embedded Flash player is just a browser/PC killer, meaning swithcing from one race to another can take the best part of a minute it really is a very slow site to navigate. Again if you’re in a rush to get a bet on I wouldn’t advise using it.
I like Paddy Power and William Hills both quick and easy to use.
October 28, 2014 at 17:38 #493668I find Hills really good. BOG, betting without, match bets etc
October 28, 2014 at 23:48 #493695I’d agree with every word of that Andrew. I’m just glad someone else has the same experience with Corals. Everything you’ve described happens to me, it’s really hard work, and I need a proper lie down after being on the site for 2 mins. I do a few Accas, and Lucky 31’s etc, and even if Oddschecker shows Corals being the best return, I’ll avoid them and use either 365, Hills, PP, or Betvic, which I find very easy to use. Sorry TYF, hopefully you can give them a kick up the
Again, totally agree with your take on Ladbrokes, and I’ll do all I can to avoid using it.
I think, and I’m no expert by any stretch of the imagination, that both the Corals and Ladbrokes have just too much going on, and it’s all very cluttered.
Worth mentioning Betfair Sportsbook, which is also a frustrating experience, and is really badly designed, it seems that it was thrown quickly together, and they’ve never really given it a proper test run.
Betfred, and Boylesports are pretty poor too.
The rest I find much of a muchness, the likes of Stan James, Skybet, and Totesport.
Betvic is pretty easy to use for Horse Racing, but can be a bit of a chore for Football, which is shame, as I always find them to best "best prices" more often than not.
I find 365 probably the easiest, and I use them the most, but Paddy Power, and William Hill are very solid as well.
Tried Coral this morning, and it worked a treat………
Ladbrokes was "a bit better" as well.
October 30, 2014 at 13:42 #493808Paddy Power’s is a good site as is VC Bet. Dont give your mobile number to Paddy Power though cos as soon as your losing bet has weighed in they send an SMS advertising other promos they have on for other events to hope you deposit more money. Not good when you Sky Plus the racing for watching later and know your’e runners a loser before you have even watched it!
October 30, 2014 at 15:52 #493817Have tried a few sites, but find BET365 is very good and excellent for race replays, so I tend to make that my go-to site.
October 30, 2014 at 22:45 #493858Thanks for all the replies so far everyone, really helpful stuff. I’m warming to Paddy Power for some of their innovations. Some are a bit naff, but some are genuinely to the punter’s benefit.
Consider that backside well and truly kicked now VTC. Logging-in shouldn’t be infuriating any more.
Reliability feels like such a big issue across the board. From scanning a few forums and review sites, it seems like Hills haven’t recovered the trust from their Grand National day downtime despite vastly improving their website content in the six months.
December 22, 2014 at 18:16 #499263Worse than ever today TYF………took about 10 goes to log on, and when I did eventually get in, I couldn’t deposit. I was inventing new swear words
You obviously didn’t want my lumpy bet, and I wasn’t playing games today either. Unfortunately for me it was a loser, so Coral missed out on some serious business.
Betfair Sportsbook are nearly £7 better off tonight
