    Me!

Never been a big fan of tipping services, but I’m sure someone on TRF can point you in the right direction.

There’s a few good judges on here, btw.

    Welcome, Chris

    Oh dear.

    Well…..
Derek Thompson was once beaten in a one month test of tipping talent by a West Highland terrier. To be fair, this breed is fairly intelligent. I hope this helps.

    No.

This is not an invention anyway. It’s documented fact.

About a decade ago one of the Sunday broadsheets ran a series of investigations of Tommo’s tipping line. I can’t believe it’s still going.

McCririck once prized out of Tommo that his maximum bet was £10.00. Nothing wrong with that except I have heard Tommo use the phrase Lump On, Lump On[/color:3vus4era] probably a thousand times. Not as bad as Ally Down though

Didn’t Ally Down once say on-air that he didn’t have any of the Racing Channels due to his reluctance to put a shilling in Murdoch’s pocket. Ally Down now writes for the News Of The World. Ally Down is a great wordsmith with turn of phrase up there with Zafonic’s turn of foot but his hypocrisy stinks to high heaven.

Henry Rix, Alan Potts and Melvyn Collier if I was to follow telephone or Email tipping services I would be looking at one of these but I have no interest in following anyone.

For me that would be even duller than my current practise of laying no hopers which in any case is about to change as I wanna start laying false favourites and I’m doing a lot of research on how to go about this.

PS That was a fantastic Q & A with Pottsy a bit back, lots of useful tips which went straight into my memory bank.

    Quite simple really.

If you cannot pick horses yourself then just give up.

Dont see the point in tipsters, Surely the best thing about racing is picking the horse which only you alone think has the best chance of winning.

If this is right, I can’t see how it makes "Ally" a hypocrite. He refuses to put money in Murdoch’s pocket but gets Murdoch to put money in his. Good business.

I thought Down’s ‘jolly-jape’ with the owner of Look Here the other day was a far greater crime.

"Oh do be a good sport and tell us what was wrong with her?"
"No, all you need to know is she’s fit."
"Oh you are a rascal, Sir, best of luck!"

The great, good and crooked must shudder at the thought of the arch inquisitor brandishing his microphone. All very well hiding behind your pen, Ally; but sometimes the spoken word is a lot sharper.

Regarding the original post; why not just watch as much racing as you can, even one race a day. Make your own notes, look when horses are due out again and have a go. You’ll have a lot more fun, you’ll feel far better if one of ‘yours’ goes in and, most importantly, you’ll have nobody to blame but yourself.

Yes, the sight of Down’s tongue prising apart Richmond-Watson’s buttocks did not make particularly pleasant viewing.

I tried Timeform phone service about 4 years ago. Waste of time and money.

My brother also did the same, not at the same time and they were so bad that I think they gave them 1 or 2 months free.

A pin is best I find now,

My late father (a successful if occasional player in the market) once decided to try one of these sites for a bit of fun over Christmas. On the initial call made on Christmas day the tipster said to ring back on Boxing Day as they had a really good astonishing tip for the King George. Turned out to be Desert Orchid. After he had stopped laughing he vowed never to try a tipping service again and never did. Pointless waste of time.

    Have a look at relayline.com.

They monitor the performance of many tipping services, keeping records of profit and loss over a long period.

The average tipster loses around 10 percent of stakes to SP over a period, although there are a few who have made a decent profit over the years IF you can get your money on at the prices they claimed to have got.

dont use tipping services,go on the evidence of your own eyes, and your gut, it wont happen overnight but you will get much more pleasure picking your own winners.
