Personally from my own memory bank, for ‘best race’ I’d say Mastercraftsman’s battle with Delegator in the 2009 St James Palace. A brilliant race fought out between two real crack racehorses.
Rewilding running down So You Think in the 2011 Prince Of Wales is right up there as well. I think we all remember Willie Carson telling us to have our houses on the O’Brien horse.
June 14, 2017 at 11:31 #1304278Yeats landing the 4 timer was a special moment, but as for the actual best race, I could not possibly pick just one. On a personal note, Kris winning the St James Palace Stakes made me a very happy young lad.
June 14, 2017 at 15:55 #1304303I am with Himself the first race that I thought of was the 1981 St.James Palace Stakes between To-Agori-Mou and King’s Lake and Starkey v Eddery.
I must admit though I could not remember the year.
June 14, 2017 at 19:05 #1304308I don’t know about the best ever race at Royal Ascot but my personal favourite was Canford Cliffs beating Goldikova in the Queen Anne
I wonder what mine would be Nath?
June 14, 2017 at 19:36 #1304310Purely personal for me is Mark Of Distinction winning the 1990 Queen Anne !!
Followed by Iceman winning the Coventry 2004.
The first one because he was a horse I loved and on his day he was magnificent!!
The second one because we took the in laws to Royal Ascot that year and backed the first three winners and that was the first one and since then the father in law thinks I know something about racing LOL

Well done pal.You never cease to amaze me.
June 14, 2017 at 20:32 #1304317One of the most memorable performances when I was younger was Lyric Fantasy blitzing her rivals in the queen mary.
The pocket rocket was pure speed…
June 14, 2017 at 21:00 #1304319Nothing wrong with Giants Causeway winning the St. James’s Palace Stakes when making all, getting headed and fighting back to get up. Also not to forget Rock Of Gibraltar winning the same race in quite impressive style two years later.
June 14, 2017 at 21:06 #1304320Best performance in my opinion has to be Simenon winning twice at the meeting in 2012. First the Ascot Stakes and then the Queen Alexandra just four days later and both times he was highly impressive.
June 15, 2017 at 02:25 #1304359That’s a good shout Ruby.
No idea what the best race would be in my time, so I’ll just go down the route of one of my personal favourites, which not surprisingly involves a winning bet.
Prince of Johanne, 2012 Royal Hunt Cup – One of my favourite flat horses, and he looked massively overpriced. Had tipped him to my whole shift, and the pressure was getting bad before the race, but he just nabbed it, and I was a very happy, and very relieved boy.
June 18, 2017 at 09:28 #1304745I go along with Black Caviar’s race, that was spellbinding.
I believe around 10,000 people watched the race on a big screen in the centre of Melbourne.
June 18, 2017 at 17:35 #1304821Id forgotten about the To-Agori-Mou/Kings Lake rivalry; it became quite the grudge match, the type you don’t see on the flat due to the brevity of their careers at top level. There was a serious amount of hype for the decider in the Sussex, which Kings Lake won narrowly
June 19, 2017 at 22:44 #1304981Frankel annihilating the field in the Queen Anne sent each vertebrae down my spine playing like piano keys. Absolutely sparkling performance!
Another race that is close to my heart was superb Horage in the 1983 St James Palace stakes. I’d religiously followed this zippy horse throughout his 2 year old season and thought the world of him. Being a sprinter, I had my doubts about him staying the mile. When Steve Cauthen sent him for home early into the straight, I yelled my tonsils ragged as he just held on from the fast-finishing Tolomeo.
I’ll never forget good ol’ Horage!

He was a cracking horse- won his first nine on the spin as a juvenile, including the Coventry Stakes. Most thought that he wouldn’t train on but he was a very useful performer at three.
June 21, 2017 at 21:38 #1305466Don’t know what the best race at Royal Ascot is

But the MP’s made me laugh today at the State Opening of Parliament when someone quipped “Hurry up, the first race is at half past two.

Seriously though the best flat horse in my opinion was Persian Punch and his wins in the Gold Cup demonstrate why

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.June 22, 2017 at 14:01 #1305603Seriously though the best flat horse in my opinion was Persian Punch and his wins in the Gold Cup demonstrate why
