Here I am ranking in order of merit the best ever racemares or fillies to have graced the European Turf.

    1.Pretty Polly

Even if you scale time or era here achievement are the equivalent of a famous monument like the Champs Elysees. It was not just the sequence of races she won but the manner she won them.Proved herself as a great handicapper.Devoured even the top colts of her time in 1903 who won the 2000 Guineas and the Derby which wa s remarkable.Infact bad riding robbed her of an unbeaten sequence.Pretty Polly won over distances from five furlongs to tow and a quarter miles and was the champion of either sex at two, three and four.Remarkable that she won the Confrontation cup twice.Few filies ever won a 1000 Guineas with such ridiculous ease, which she won in record time. She won 22 out of 24 starts, losing twice due t misfortune.

The ultimate super horse as a model of consistency ,posessing the temperament of a great military commander.A mjsetic athelete who took racing perfection or achievement to its pinnacle .

Statistically arguably the best racehorse ever considering it has won the King George 3 times as well as the Arc.She also proved her great temperament by winning the Breeders cup even if the margin was slender. Her Juddmonte international win in 2017 and Epsom Irish and Yorshkire Oaks triumph rank amongst the most impressive performances of all time.Won 15 out of 19 times in Group 1 races. from 2017-2020 .

Nor rated at no 1 because here winning margins were not so spectacular .She did not annihilate opposition with the same contempt as even Dahlia at her best .In some of her big wins she also had very few opponents.

Perhaps her timeform rating is misleading and could scale up to 137-139 in past eras.No doubt a true amperes of racing revealing the invincibility of Queen Victoria.Achievements in regions of divinty.

The ultimate Marco Polo of horse racing winning in France,England and America from 1972-75.Won both her King George’s mowing rivals down with greater conviction than any race mare ever ,conquering great stars like Rheingold.Won the Benson and Hedges gold cup twice and the Washington International. For pure acceleration even arguably overpowered Enable, but did not match her phenomenal consistency.Won 15 out of 48 races. To me at her bets in the Mil Reef class.

Statistically simply a queen ,winning every classic, except the Epsom Derby in year 1902..Won the 2000 Guineas with more consummate ease than even a champion colt ,and with equal ease won the 1000 Guineas and Oaks.A bruised foot perhaps robbed her of a win in the Derby but she came back spectacularly to win the Oaks,StLeger,Nassau Stakes and St James Place Stakes..In later seasons she won the Hardwicke Stakes,Jockey Club Stakes and Champion Stakes. In the Jockey club stakes she defeated triple crown winner Rock Sand.

Arguably overraced by trainer Sevier and thus beaten in races like Grand Prix de Paris,Sussex Stakes and later Eclipse.

Had she won the Derby she could well have been rated the horse of the last century. No other horse has ever won four classics, let alone 5.

A ressurection of Dahlia in the 1980’s like another Marco Pol emerging on the racetrack.Conquered the best colts of her time and captured the Breeders Cup mile twice in succession.Perhaps the best ever miler amongst fillies or mares.Conquered class milers like Warning in he 2nd Breeders cup.

A powerhouse of great talent winning her 2nd Arc in 2015 more brilliantly than any race mare ever.Literally steam rolled over the opposition like mowing down a bunch of daisies.Took invincibility to regions few racemares ever did like a flying machine.

    7.Ouija Board

One of the greatest racemares of recent times after 2000,dominating the racetrack like a great military empire.Won big races like the Oaks,Irish Oaks,Breeders Cup filly twice,Nassau stakes,Prince of Wales Stakes and Hong Kong Vase. One of the toughest or gutsiest racemares ever resembling the unrelenting spirit of a soldier in big races.Few mares also went down so gallantly in defeats like in the Irish Champion Stakes.

One of the most convincing or merciless winners of the Epsom Oaks ,where she devoured her rivals like mincemeat by a margin of seven lengths.

Won outstanding prize money winning 10 out of her 22 races.

    8.Park Top

Arguably faulty riding tactics cost her a famous Arc win in 1969.She established a complete monopoly over the big races like the King George ,Coronation Cup and Hardwicke Stakes in 1969.

Only raced in France but annihilated opponents with degree of contempt as any racing great. In the Arc displayed a sensational burst of finishing speed, when triumphing in 2008.

Sadly her career was cut by an injury but few mares ever achieved glory at such a pinnacle in an Oaks and Irish Derby. It was capable of defeating the very best colts of her season.Balanchine devoured the sunsqeuent King George winner and Epsom Derby runner up by a merciless four lengths in the 1994 Irish Derby.

    11.Oh So Sharp

Ressurected the glory of great fillies of yesteryear by capturing the fillies triple crown in 1985.Few females have displayed such relentless fighting spirit on a racetrack as she displayed in the Guines and Leger or won an Oaks in such a classical fashion.By a mere whisker lost the King George .Few felmaes blended such spectacular turn of foot with daunting courage.

    12.Allez France

One of the all-time great mares of French racing who in 1974 won the Arc in a most outstanding field.Defeated the super mare Dahlia on six occassions in France, but no succesful abroad.

It was really difficult to compare eras of Enable or Pretty Polly or develop a criteria.Still I respected history even if breeding has considerably improved over the century.Arguably Treve at his best or Zarkava could have matched Enable or even Dahlia earlier.I wonder how Sceptre would have been regarded had she won the Derby.
