I wouldn’t sneeze at six of the last seven Beresford winners.
September 27, 2009 at 18:41 #250407I want to obviosuly see how SNA runs. I was also impressed by reiteration when he was 2nd behind Black quartz at the Curragh, so he really should go well.
BobbyScot
is a right big price on the exchange at 60 odds, so i had the smallest of nibbles because i may be wrong, but that is a false price and perhaps it should be lower. And although i expect SNS to win, i will have a small bet on
Reiteration
because he’s a good type at 7/1 is very fair.
September 27, 2009 at 19:17 #250410Favourite did no more than he had to although not sure there was a great deal of note in behind. Wouldn’t be in a hurry to back any Bolger horses at the moment – Free Judgement ran a shocker in the Sales race and the very weak in the market Reiteration was the first beat. Normally on-song Bolger horses find under pressure but this one found absolutely nothing on drying ground that should have suited.
September 27, 2009 at 19:27 #250412Very taken by that effort.
Murtagh gave him a couple of nudges two and a half out and the horse responded in good style. He found a little extra 200 yards from home and won well in the end.
Looks an honest type, despite not putting his head down, but it was clear to see he’s still learning the game and he should go on from this.
The Racing Post Trophy looks an ideal race for this son of Montjeu.
Bred to be good.
September 27, 2009 at 19:30 #250413A win that said good potential more than anything else. He will be a very good horse next season once he fills out a bit during the winter break.
September 27, 2009 at 19:39 #250415Plenty to like about that. Not a whole lot in behind but he picked up nicely under minimal pressure from Johnny. One to look forward to next year.

Obviusly you make a valid point but I fail to see what they have got to do with this horse.
No trainer turns on a tap and says acracadabra let’s win that race with him…Santa (lovely name started by Gerard I believe) wouldn’t be suited by following the footseps of some of the famous names that have come out of AOB’s he simply wouldn’t have the speed to be taking on the top 6f and 7f horses. The 2000 Guineas is the furthest thing from AOB’s mind and he’ll probably never run over a mile next year. I doubt if there’s a higher rated 2 yo at Ballydolye at this tme
September 27, 2009 at 21:30 #250443It was Graeme , actually.
Fist, could you expand on the 2000 Guineas not being on AOB’s mind for St Nicholas Abbey? I can’t see why the horse can’t double up. There’s no guarantee that Steinbeck won’t get injured again.
September 27, 2009 at 21:37 #250445St Nicholas Abbey was the smallest horse in the Paddock but has a beautiful head bit like George Washington.
The Godolphin horse looked a monster 2yr old and really took the eye.
There is no chance he go for the Guineas…can someone explain why he would go there?….what’s the attraction in running the horse in the race as it place in the pecking order is falling further and further it down races they want to win. They used it as a prep this year.
Cape Blanco…Galileo Miler?…Steinbeck..????…..Alfred Nobel..??… Viscount Nelson…?
Plenty of milers….especially since Dynasty/ Fighting Brave are expected to be good horse’s over a mile aswell.
Na Derby all over…

Well there’s no real shape or form to AOB’s method when it comes to working out what will go where and which will end up top dog. There’s so much talent goes through the mans hands only time will tell.
St Nick is a bit easier to work out as a mile already looks on the short side for him. In both his runs he has taken just the little bit extra time to pick up and if you watch him in the dying stages he’s just starting to get into top gear.
He looks all over a horse who will need 1m2f and more to bring out the best of him as a 3 year old. This could be a stepping stone to Donnie but it wouldn’t suprise me if they give it a miss if it looks on the hot side. Personally I wouldn’t go near Donnie and put him away for a Derby trial next year but AOB knows best.
I wouldn’t be worrying about Steinbeck I sincerely doubt if he is AOB guineas horse and the bookies have it wrong……if he has one good enough it will be Cape Blanco IMO. Steinbeck is a horse who very early doors was touted by O’Brien but he was nowhere near as impressive once seen on the racecourse as expected.
Both are entered for the Dewhurst but Steinbeck has been slipped an entry for Redcar whereas CB holds only the Dewhurst engagement……that tells me AOB is thinking of a lesser target for the talking horse and his number one hope for the Dewhurst is Cape Blanco he says will be twice the horse when he gets faster ground and with luck will get it. Certainly won’t be as bad as the bog he ran and won in last time.
September 27, 2009 at 22:20 #250454Fist i would be pretty happy with St Nick going to Doncaster….there’s nothing in that race that should worry AOB other than Chapple Hyam horse but the Chapple horse does not have the well structured tempermant of St Nick…the horse just oozed Class everywhere he went compared to the rest. He already knows that he can win most 2yr old race in England with horses that are ordinary enough hence Joshua Tree’s win.
I must admit i thought some of these English Horses this year would have a big edge over the Irish ones due to the ground but that hasn’t been the case and the Middle Park well tell us alot more about the Strength in Depth in the division on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Steinbeck is a bit of a Rip Van Winkle about him tbh….whether he will win the Guineas or not is irrevlant for me as i feel the horse is a good animal but that is on limited evidence. Cape Blanco won the trial of AOB Very good 2yr olds in the Futurity..the list of Top Class 3yr olds that won the race is very long indeed.
September Morn is another very Interesting Derby Contender for the Top Sire Montjeu who has yet to make a racecourse debut aswell as 5 other talking horses that we usually here about.
One thing for sure is that Aidan O Brien has a huge amount of talent in Colts and Filly division’s this year and Coolmore(what can you say that hasn’t been said) superb operation.
September 27, 2009 at 22:42 #250461He initiates stuff, which is the same reason why TAPK likes me. (Mad fool.)
(Okay, I like him as well.
But drop all that Albertas Run stuff.)

Good man Gerald. Had forgotten about those endless threads discussing the limitless scope and potential of Albertas Run! Only a few weeks I’d say till he resumes banging that drum again.
What price for the King George and Gold Cup your majesty?
Imperial, do not write
Albertas run
off! My first post said i was trying to find something to challenge Kauto Star and Denman, who subsequently went on to finish 1st and 2nd in the Gold Cup,at the time of writing Kauto was 7/1 and Denman 7/4,as the season progressed those prices turned full circle! Quite incredible! His majesty did put Albertas up for the King George at 50/1,so my crown sits comfortably!
Forpadydeplasterer
is a horse i like a lot,but then again i did put him up at 20/1 months before the Arkle,Equitrack will love my aftertiming! Ryanair is this years target, take the 25/1 now!

Joshua Tree may have won the Royal Lodge anyway, WN7, but he was certainly made to look better having taken out three contenders in one go. And Richard Hills taking a nap aboard Waseet did his cause no harm either.
I’d be in no hurry to back St Nicholas Abbey for the Derby on the back of that performance. I’ll probably oppose him should he turn up at Doncaster, too.
September 27, 2009 at 22:48 #250464Wallace – might be a bit premature calling Joshua Tree ‘ordinary’.
September 27, 2009 at 23:00 #250468As a small matter of interest Joshua Tree was ridden by Joseph O’Brien in his previous run at Listowel when he ran into the rail! So maybe he is difficult to steer. Also for some undisclosed reason there was no video of that race available on ATRs

Take a peep at the "my selections/shortlist for the 2009 Festival" thread: http://theracingforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75936&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 I put FPDP up at 25s – Great minds think alike eh Gordie!

I wouldn’t rule out the Champion Chase for FPDP next year though. Tommy Cooper and them boys from the Goat would like nothing better then a crack at the big one over two miles rather than the consolation prize that is the Ryanair. They’re not sure he truly stays 2m4+ either at this stage. He flattened out before the last in the Ballymore and he was outstayed in both the Drinmore and the Moriarty by Trafford Lad and Cooldine respectively. Presume they’ll start him out in something like the Fortria before maybe taking in the John Durkan. They could decide then whether to go up to the Lexus or back down to the Dial-A-Bet then at Christmas.
Sorry to hijack the thread from the flat lads but sure I started the feckin’ thread anyway!
September 27, 2009 at 23:54 #250485St Nicholas Abbey has good potential but in reality he beat nothing. On a line through the second (Layali Al Andaluz) he is still many pounds short of other horses with just as much scope for improvement. Layali Al Andaluz was well beaten at Doncaster by Poets Voice who in turn was beaten by Elusive Pimpernel and Emerald Commander at York in the Acomb. In my opinion Elusive Pimpernel has just as much potential as St Nick but has actually achieved more already. Cant believe St Nick is 8-1 for the Derby with some firms, ridiculous price.
