I think Belardo’s run petered out though. Had he finished more strongly and sustained I might have blamed the jockey for not getting 100% out of the horse on the day.
If you watch the race again and see Belardo’s rate of gain on Breton Rock, you would be more or less certain that he would pass him before the line but his rate of gain subsides somewhat and he never actually manages to catch the 3rd horse.
Dutch Connection clearly weakens and that makes it look like Breton Rock is staying on better than he actually was I believe.
As I have said, when they purposely tried to be more aggressive with Belardo in his races it has backfired badly.
