Highland Lodge loves it around these fences, just isn’t interested anywhere else. However, temperament still caused him to lose out today. Surprised Brooke didn’t go for the rail – should’ve known – as only just got away with the same thing last year; idles badly. Feel for connections and backers.

Shutthefrontdoor has been laid out for this at 16/1,he doesnt really get the National trip so this extended 3m will suit perfectly,he jumps round Aintree easily and I notice connections have pulled the 12/1fav ‘Minella Rocco’ out. That speaks volumes to me.

Laid out my A*se! Thats just cost me a £50 e/w bet at 16/1! :negative: When TAPK’s backs to the wall he comes out fighting and we all know what that means…..Vieux Lion Rouge at 12/1 will win now. B-)

    Oh well played TAPK!

Each way third at 12s The Last samurai for me.

Keep the faith with yours pal he’s the horse everything has to beat in the Grand National itself, awesome weight carrying performance, mine was tuned for today at these weights as the market suggested.

TAPK makes boldness pay off and not for the first time. Well done all winners

I felt for Dicky getting caught so late at Cheltenham on Village Vic but am absolutely gutted for young Brooke on HL. Fine for armchair jocks to say get to the rail, but when you have a horse balanced and going straight at the end of such a gruelling race you can lose it by altering stride and balance so late. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing.

I suspect Pauling’s horses are off colour. Silvergrove, while jumping well enough, never looked to be travelling despite his prominent position. He was being pushed along after a circuit.

TYM ran no race and I had the impression crossing Anchor Bridge that he might pull him up. Perhaps wished afterwards that he had done.

Cheers Joe,I’m not one for being over confident but I’m waiting on As de Mee for a 100/1 double with Vieux Lion rouge…10/1 and 9/1 purely on both running well at Cheltenham..’As de Mee’ has no ‘Black Herc’ to beat in the ‘Grand Sefton’.

Gord, you deserve a Victoria Cross to go with your winnings just for trusting that bloody As De Mee. Well done.

I believe you this time mate. But in future, with these doubles etc please let us know before the first horse wins and before the second one’s halved in price. Especially when not tipped as a single in Grand Sefton thread… Otherwise it’ll come over as aftertiming. ;-)

    Great day for you, enjoy.

Well, it WAS very tight. Disaster for me with Saint Are falling & effectively bringing down Ziga Boy at 1st! Vieux Lion Rouge was my third choice but unbacked!! Not convinced he will stay in the National though. Going may have been a tad softer than anticipated but a remarkable effort by Highland Lodge nevertheless, a real specialist – the handicapper must ensure he gets in GN. We may not see either the 1st or 2nd until GN. Thought The Last Samuri might need but will be too exposed at the weights to better a place in the big one. Eye-opening run by One For Arthur. Ucello Conti: right trip, needs Soft/Heavy. Viconte Du Noyer: doesn’t appear to stay the trip after all or now running at 3+ may need plenty of time between races? The Young Master: forget for GN, was, said trainer, going to be looked after but didn’t appear to take to course which accentuated his jumping frailties. Finally, Silvergrove – stable form is not convincing but is not a Class 1 horse, needs to be able to dominate in a lower Class.

GUTTED ! H L was brilliant and to have led for so much of the race and get nutted on the post was sickening . However after 50 years in the game you learn to win some lose some . Congrats to all who had the winner
