I saw the ESPN 74 and 77 stuff too See More. I can understand most
people would have found it slow going but I preferred that style of
presentation. Would have been the first time I`ve seen the `74 race in colour anyway. At least the BBC didn`t blow the budget on presenters
and background music in those days.I agree with Steven F that Darren Owen did well even if they did cut his
microphone on Saturday. Very neat summing up at the end of his section in the Topham too.April 10, 2008 at 16:28 #157278BBC has 3 main problems over National meeting:
1) That bloody "Bob Champion" music is so overplayed it makes me want to slit my throat, repeatedly.
2) The winning/placed horses prices after the race takes AGES to come through. (something ATR’s has improved)
3) John Parrot; nice bloke, but gives dishwater a bad name.

April 10, 2008 at 16:49 #157281Takes all sorts – I love the Champions theme – then you know it’s the National.
We were there and I must say the Cattermole gaffs could have caused all sorts of problems as I saw a few tote tickets go flying through the air when he announced the incorrect fallers. I know it’s not easy and could forgive him but I was also at Newbury on the day of the Khyber Kim mess up – he’s sort of losing the plot on commentating in my opinion.
