I’ll update today’s selections and yesterday’s results later and also post the rules for the 5 remaining systems.
February 21, 2005 at 20:50 #58495No jump racing again on Tuesday, so no selections for Aston or Grasshopper…

Letsgetracing – No selections
Empty Wallet – No selections
Lookingforawinner – 4.10 Lingfield – Les Arcs
February 21, 2005 at 21:25 #58498System rules for the remaining 5
Empty Wallet
Drawn 4 system
Wolverhampton/Southwell only
Hcp’s
6 and 7f
Drawn in stall 4 ,obviously
Lookingforawinner
In the race with the highest prize money, pick the second forecast favourite.
Aston
Handicaps (hurdles or chases)
Pick the highest rated CD winner, who has been at least placed in at least one of its last 2 runs.
Must not be top weight.
If the criteria above cannot be met, then no bet.
Grasshopper
Any handicap chases up to 130-rated
Ignore horses carrying 11-2 and over
Ignore horses carrying 10-10 and under
Horse must have winning form at trip
Win bet on any qualifier(s)
Letsgetracing
Any race in which Martin Pipe has two runners, back the longer priced horse. If he has more than two, back his ‘third best.’
February 22, 2005 at 20:07 #58499Wednesday (should the racing go ahead) sees the following…
Grasshopper
*no selections
(with a healthy % profit on the board, this could be a ‘reet canny ploy’)
Aston
3:50 ludlow – COSMOCRAT
4:00 doncaster – FARD DU MOULIN MAS
+ possibly 2:40 doncaster – FLUFF ‘N’ PUFF – Aston this is joint top-rated – do these count or not?
February 22, 2005 at 21:12 #58500After Tuesday –
1. Aston sel’s 9/28 p/l +16.38pts %p/l +58.48%
2. Letsgetracing sel’s 1/10 p/l +5pts %p/l +50%
3. Grasshopper sel’s 4/20 p/l +7.57pts %p/l +37.85%
4. Empty Wallet sel’s 3/10 p/l +3.75pts %p/l +37.5%
5. Lookingforawinner sel’s 4/18 p/l +2pts %p/l +11.11%
Only Lookingforawinner has had a selection since Saturday and, with three losers, he’s beginning to find himself tailing off. However, as we have seen already, it only takes a winner or two to change matters so lots of time yet.

February 22, 2005 at 21:32 #58501Wednesday’s runners –

February 23, 2005 at 15:12 #58502Thanks for all the work lads.
NV, joint top weight is a no bet.
February 23, 2005 at 21:12 #58503After Wednesday
1. Aston sel’s 9/28 p/l +16.38pts %p/l +58.48%
2. Letsgetracing sel’s 1/10 p/l +5pts %p/l +50%
3. Grasshopper sel’s 4/20 p/l +7.57pts %p/l +37.85%
4. Empty Wallet sel’s 3/10 p/l +3.75pts %p/l +37.5%
5. Lookingforawinner sel’s 4/19 p/l +1pts %p/l +5.26%
Yet again Lookingforawinner is the only one to beat the freeze but, unfortunately, he fails to capitalise and slips further behind. It could be that just one good winner is all that’s going to be put one of the quintet into an unassailable lead.

Aston
3:20 haydock – SPINOFSKI
4:10 huntingdon – KELANTAN
Grasshopper
3:20 haydock – SPINOFSKI and INDALO
4:10 huntingdon – STANDING BLOOM

February 24, 2005 at 21:50 #58506Results after Thursday –
1. Aston sel’s 10/30 p/l +17.63pts %p/l +58.76%
2. Letsgetracing sel’s 1/10 p/l +5pts %p/l +50%
3. Grasshopper sel’s 5/23 p/l +9.07pts %p/l +39.43%
4. Empty Wallet sel’s 3/11 p/l +2.75pts %p/l +25%
5. Lookingforawinner sel’s 4/20 p/l +/-0pts %p/l +/-0%
Nice winners for both Aston and Grasshopper keep them rolling along nicely, with Aston in particular keeping up that very impressive strike rate. Empty Wallet struck out with his only runner of the day while Lookingforawinner is now struggling to stay profitable. Lots to play for yet though as one good winner could turn the table on it’s head.
February 24, 2005 at 21:59 #58507Selections for Friday

Wolves 3.50 Lateral Thinker unp

February 24, 2005 at 22:49 #58508just a quick confirmation for Aston and Grasshopper that…
1) figures as per cormack’s update are correct (although i have grasshopper at 58.75%, but that’s just pedantic)
2) no runners on friday!

February 25, 2005 at 17:07 #58509Results after Friday
1. Aston sel’s 10/30 p/l +17.63pts %p/l +58.76%
2. Grasshopper sel’s 5/23 p/l +9.07pts %p/l +39.43%
3. Letsgetracing sel’s 1/11 p/l +4pts %p/l +36.44%
4. Empty Wallet sel’s 3/12 p/l +1.75pts %p/l +14.58%
5. Lookingforawinner sel’s 5/21 p/l +2.75pts %p/l +13.09%
Much needed winner for Lookingforawinner brings him back into contention while Letsgetracing slips from 2nd to 3rd leaving Grasshopper the nearest pursuer to Aston who now looks like he will take a bit of catching.
February 26, 2005 at 09:22 #58510Grass – The winner is the person with the best Profit % measured against turnover. Yours is currently +39.43%. In other words you’ve invested 23 pts and made a profit of 9.07 pts which is +39.43%. This is the last column in the score table.
Measuring return on investment in this way provides the best long term test of a systems profitability, better than the straight number of points profit as that could simply go to a system which had lots of runners. Strike rate is also problematic as that could simply go to the system picking those at shortest prices.
