It was fine when they used Scorpion, Yellowstone and Ivan Denisovich because they were actually capable of winning top races. The crud they’ve used this season isn’t even up to Group 3 level, with the exception of Grand Ducal.
Given what Set Sail achieved when they let him run on his merits in the French Guineas it’s very hard to agree with the above.

Ran in the Prix la Fontainebleau. And he got beat 4 starts ago in a run of the mill race with 4 rivals. He’s utter crud.
October 7, 2009 at 22:47 #252322Set Sail is not very good but I disagree that you have to have big time group horses to use pacemaking as a means to ensure a good pace. I cannot believe that all the brainpower at Ballydoyle have not figured out that their way of interpreting pacemaking is very flawed at best. Considering this has been going on for quite a few years now, it seems to me that they know exactly what they are doing and that is something akin to what Doughino stated earlier.
Whatever they are thinking because unfortunately they fail to inform the public of their intentions, I find the whole thing a bit unsavory.

Given their professionalism in other matters, Id be amazed if Coolmore didn’t know what they’re doing with pacemakers. It’s struck me more than once recently that they appear to be sacrificing the lead horse and letting the 2nd in do the real job, which leads to other stables ignoring both.
Do agree the whole thing’s unsavoury though. - AuthorPosts
