I think High Chaparral could be a very successful Broodmare band.
High Heeled, Unsung Heroine, Joanna, Beach Bunny, Winkle,
The Miniver Rose, lady Darshaan, Victoria Montoya.Quite a decent few Filly’s he has got.
Unsung Heroine especially she was simply a Unbelievable Mare
April 18, 2010 at 20:04 #291058High Chaparral isn’t very good ? What’s your benchmark ?
And haven’t you seen his SH results lately ?
April 18, 2010 at 20:18 #291067Black Sam it would be typical as soon as i posted it he gets a trifecta in Group 1 down under.

My benchmark would be obviously the big 3 European Sires at Coolmore. In regards their record in Group 1 Races obviously he doesn’t stand much chance to be called anything but a under achiever with his Track CV. In a European Market which is so competitive Sire’s that usually laden produce with stamina and lack of any sort of 2yr olds to speak of aren’t encouraging for Buyer’s. Obviously if u want a Stayer and a Irish Leger/Ascot Gold Cup horse you are having a bargain at 15k covering fee for breeders.
Good to see him with some good horses though….i was a huge huge fan of Unsung Heroine one of my favorite Horse’s. Worryingly enough for Global Breeding is the reliance on one Gene line from Northern Dancer as Coolmore stock really are blooming in every continent.
June 2, 2010 at 17:35 #298249I have been told by quite a few trainers that Montjeu fillies are hard to train as many of them are high strung, so perhaps that is why we do not see that many of them on the track. Whether they will be able to become good broodmares or not only time will tell. Any that we know of who have already bred well?
I do not subscribe to either Weatherbys or the Racing Post so cannot do much research anymore.
Galileo fillies seem to have good temperaments on the whole, so maybe he has a better chance of following his sire as a good broodmare sire.
From what little experience I have with broodmares believe me you do not want to have to foal a high strung one, especially if there is a problem and the foal is worth a lot of money! Just day to day care of a horse who does not have the most helpful attitude is harder and whoever has the task will need to be up to it or the horse will suffer. Most owners would prefer one who is even tempered. An exception is obviously made when they turn out as great as Montjeu, or Yeats, but they need to get that far first.
Coolmore have never given me the impression that they do not want to buy or own Montjeu’s though, I don’t think they do favour Galileo, they just buy what they like. I think it is a coincidence that this season they seem to have a lot of Galileo’s and perhaps more to do with private breeders who use their sires.
Are we going to keep this thread updated as the 2 year olds run? Any idea how many of them we have seen so far and how they did?
June 2, 2010 at 17:47 #298251Okay Fairy
Quick Summary
Samuel Morse
ZoffanyHead to Ascot as unbeaten in 2 stars
All the Holy Roman Emperor’s look okay but no stars although
Holy Roman Emperor ex Starlight Dream is a half sister to Mastercrafsman and Famous.Dont think we have seen any Hurricane Run’s/Montjeu/Kingmambo/Saddler’s Wells
A few Mr Greenley’s who look useless.
Together is the best of the Galileo’s so far and half sister to Jan Vermeer.

The Galileo 2nd was called Treasure Beach.
August 2, 2010 at 13:20 #310581Just done a quick update of the runners so far as i see them.
Loads still to run and loads still unexposed but i can only identify potentially 2 good 2yr olds so far in the blue. The ones in bold are crap
August 4, 2010 at 14:38 #310906Another quick update on the first page to account for the Dewhurst Entries

Out of these horses which ones you see as derby horses for next year as i am convinced O’Brein will win it next year. Are Eagle Canyon and Amen bred for the derby if not who are
August 7, 2010 at 09:57 #311442Everything that hasn’t run yet are Derby Horse’s.
The better one’s will be coming out from now on
August 8, 2010 at 17:46 #311742Okay i was wrong with Misty for me and she is now Group 1 potential along with the Winner of the Fillies Maiden Spin who lets faced it hacked up in a traditional very strong maiden.
The Galileo’s filly really improve from one run to the next. I give Together another chance…she was all over the place and clearly was not her running.
Next batch of 2yr olds out on Thursday in Leapardstown
August 12, 2010 at 17:34 #312447What you think of the debut of Eagle Canyon. He look ok for me i see him winning next time out.Could we see him at Epsom next year?
August 12, 2010 at 17:56 #312454Could not ask anymore on debut.
Prob would have run had the winner not started to cut off his space about 1f out.
Eagle Canyon looks Smart
