April 6, 2010 at 12:07 #287895Oracle
Samuel Morse
Emperor Hadrianall entered up on Sunday.
We can scratch does from the 104 list
Sameul Morse is bred from a NH jumper?
April 6, 2010 at 21:52 #288086I think a good Flat horse could be bred from a jumper.
Vision d’Etat and others would indicate that class is class, and some horses are more versatile than we give them credit for.
April 6, 2010 at 22:05 #288094I suppose
But
I like my flashy dam’s hehe
April 7, 2010 at 00:50 #288133Plus how else to start weeding through such a massive list…
Interesting to see a First Samurai there (I suppose it is indirect support for Giant’s Causeway). And the Encosta – are there any of his offpsring (presumably all Southern hemi-born) that would be the right age to qualify for the Northern hemi juvenile races? And developed enough?
April 7, 2010 at 00:54 #28813415 Montjeu’s . Seems very light for their Best Stallion
While I agree with you (that Montjeu is their best stallion), I sometimes get the feeling that Coolmore doesn’t quite see it that way, and think Galileo has more promise. Partially (probably) because Galileo has shown he can get some winners at <12f, while Montjeu is well and truly perceived as a 12f and more sire. Let’s see if SNA can change that…
April 9, 2010 at 15:42 #288912I may be completely out of range but I think that with Montjue they face the problem of being left with a bunch of Montjue mares which are useless .
April 9, 2010 at 15:53 #288916Okay the reason so few Montjeu’s is that Galileo needs a massive boost commercially.
Montjeu
St Nicholas Abbey
Jan VermeerDanehill Dancer
Lillie Langtry
Alfred NobelGalileo had Cape Blanco who looks okay so far but not the same league as Montjeu’s titans. Coolmore also have nothing of Galileo’s progeny…they have Rip Van Winkle and Age Of Aquarius only one can retire to stud and get a big fee.
Montjeu has retired son’s such as Hurricane Run and Fame And Glory soon aswell as their 2 2yr old above. Basically they have a huge bunch of Galileo’s in order to get a good decent chance of geting a good stallion from them and you prob need around 10(Group 1) on track to produce 1 top class stallion.
See makes sense when i think about it

Sounds like you
are
completely out of range. How exaclty would broodmares by one of the top (maybe THE top) European sires be useless? If Montjeu is at all like his sire (and there are indications that he is), he will be passing on class and upgrading most of his offspring.
April 13, 2010 at 19:48 #290129Basically they have a huge bunch of Galileo’s in order to get a good decent chance of geting a good stallion from them
Wallace, it is a nice theory, but I am not convinced. Let’s think this through.
Up until a few months ago (i.e. the time these purchases were made), you would have said that High Chaparral needed the boost much more than Galileo. I think Galileo has a lot of fans, including Jim Bolger who almost single-handedly revived Galileo’s early commercial (i.e. speed-loving) reputation which was suffering from the prominence of staying horses amongst his offspring (Red Rocks, Sixties Icon). Teofilo, New Approach, Lush Lashes all showed that Galileo could get high quality juveniles and performers under 12f.
If boosting their stallions was the sole/driving purpose of their purchase policy, wouldn’t High Chap or Rock of G have a higher profile in their purchases? Wouldn’t they be more interested in the best prospects, regardless of their sire (or almost-regardless of their sire, they aren’t going to go buy a Cape Cross now, no matter how stupid that may look in retrospect)? Their history suggests that they have been exceptionally canny in buying horses that will make great stallions. On the other hand, their purchase policy has certainly contributed to making the stallions they own overdominant…
Can’t decide.
April 13, 2010 at 23:15 #290182Olebahram, Regarding Montjeu I don’t believe that Montjeu has gotten one Group One filly or mare. Now the last thing Coolmore needs is to take a chance on ending up with a bunch of loser, no good fillies. You have a fifty fifty chance of getting a filly from Montjeu and that is the problem. That is the Montjue curse.Useless fillies running with their head cocked and their tale swishing.
April 14, 2010 at 01:21 #290191Andyod, 2 problems with that theory.
(1) Coolmore are buying most of their horses, so if that is a concern, they can just choose not to buy Montjeu females. Doesn’t explain why they aren’t buying more Montjeu colts.
(2) You have a point that most of Montjeu’s best performers (and all at the highest level) have been colts, but I don’t think the fillies are useless. For example, Clowance came close to a few G1s last year, and may manage better this year. Again, I think it could be similar to his sire, where you had to wade through scores of G1-winning colts before spotting the occasional Salsabil or Islington. Sires of sires like SW and Danehill had far better sons than daughters, but they usually upgraded their daughters as well, since we also see them prominently on the Broodmare Sires lists (just with more of a time lag). I think the same may happen with Montjeu.
April 14, 2010 at 05:05 #290199A wise policy to buy the Montjeu sons and avoid the daughters. At least half the fee should be returned, if a filly, at owner option.Trouble is who wants to put out money to train her? Is Montjeu a broodmare sire of value?

Problem is with that Ole is that High Chaparral and Rock of Gibraltar aren’t very good and Coolmore have completely given up on Rock as he is useless. I would expect he could be sold to the middle east sooner or later. Also another thing with that theory Coolmore INC don’t own any of the best Galileo’s.(New approach, teofilo,Lush Lashes, Cuis Ghaire,60’s icon, Purple Moon,Kitewood, Chabal, Alandi). Of the Galileo’s they have they only have Rip Van Winkle. For housing as they think the best Sire in the world( I disagree Montjeu is imo) they have very little return. They reason they invest so much as Yearling is to avoid paying 20 Million for a Dud sire. I expect that the whole procedure next year is to get a 2-3 real Group 1 Galileo’s and work from their. The law of averages suggest they will get at least 1. Galileo is a huge sire but Coolmore INC Have little return Progeny wise
