Is the answer to your question Weston Park? Only an inspired guess as I’ve never been racing there – although I once owned a horse trained by Roy Cambidge who trained there.
Also isn’t it right that Bangor On Dee point to points go the other way to their racing under rules?
April 26, 2007 at 14:45 #545781.01 that Adrian would have replied first. Yes, the answer is Weston Park although the Meynell & South Staffs meeting there was abandoned this year.
April 26, 2007 at 15:42 #54579You can write what I know about pt-to-points and general track conditions on the back of a postage stamp and still have plenty of room to spare. However, I was having a Sunday afternoon stroll last week and stumbled on what I soon realised was Parham point-to-point course. The ground seemed as hard as the road and there was more grass on the road, especially on the top bend that seems to lead onto the airfield!
Can’t imagine there will be many runners.
April 26, 2007 at 16:26 #54580Good effort if you managed to walk from home to Parham!!
Parham is always as hard as ****
, they never have many runners and the entries for this particular meeting are predictably low. The official line is that the ground is firm, whether they are watering I know not – sounds like they certainly need to.April 26, 2007 at 16:41 #54581Just from the pub in Pulborough, so not really very impressive!
No sign of any watering last weekend and apart from half an hour of rain this morning it has been warm and sunny all week.
That’s good to know – let’s see how she gets on, then.
As you say, they’re certainly a family embodied in the fabric of jumps, hunting, etc. – one of my earliest hunter chase memories is of CJT Alexander (Nick’s dad, I presume) goading a win out of the 14yo slowpoke Panegyrist in an Ayr contest yonks ago.
Ah well, I’ll have to leave the charms of Parham for another year now – I’m taking in Laleston, nr Bridgend, instead. Actually some decent-sized fields in the original declarations so hopefully I won’t get a repeat of the debacle I witnessed at Hackwood Park three weeks ago.
Fans of the unusual may know, of course, that Laleston is one of few courses on the PTP circuit that features a stretch of course containing something other than turf – the woodside straight features a wood chip surface instead. With six fences a circuit and three circuits per race, this is going to feel like Cartmel without the run-in or the stick toffee pudding!

April 28, 2007 at 08:45 #54585Our man on the course – Marko – was correct and they have cancelled Parham due to the hard ground.
Fakenham should have good to firm ground tomorrow and a super days racing in prospect – thank goodness for watering systems!

Clearly a totally different proposition in points compared to under NH rules. He was never in the race at Perth on Thursday.

April 30, 2007 at 13:09 #54588Agreed. He did not travel a single yard.
His rules form now has more P’s than a Penguin biscuit ad. A far cry from the days when he was winning novice chases with 12-4 on his back.
April 30, 2007 at 16:09 #54589Been offline all weekend due to moving house.
Wise Man is a bit of an enigma. He was very well prepared for his race at Perth but took absolutely no interest in the race and sulked at the back until being pulled up. Then hacked up at the Point 2 days later. Why do we back horses!
