totaly agree but it never was a small overeach at sandown as stated he had struck into his tendon quite sevearly, but was reinjured again, racin is a tough sport and its not that hard to see when any sport horse let alone racing when a horse isunt rite, or even deserves there well earned break, unfortunately for some horses its tp late………:(
March 18, 2007 at 23:26 #47213What goes around comes around.Maybe PN will be asked to perform again too soon after over exerting himself-and he won’t be able to manage it
Glad that Azerty is ok :)
March 18, 2007 at 23:31 #47214totally agree jilly, eventually it will all have a meaning its like azza just didunt exist well, no other supream athletes get forgot about i guess theres a new champion around the corner…..but luck doesent last forever …
az is happy and looks fab,
March 19, 2007 at 01:40 #47215LOL Jilly I am going to refrain from suggesting anything, but what would you do to Nicholls after he had a hard race?
Azertyioup seemed a brilliant animal…… I watched the replay of his penultimate run and it was a nasty mistake he made, I wouldn’t like to be the jockey after that happened as I wouldn’t know whether to ask him to try and win the race or just go easy on him. Shame his career ended prematurely.
March 19, 2007 at 07:44 #47216yes trus fsl….and what a true performer to continue the battle in the hight of adrenalin in what must have been a real blow….x

Azertyuiop was injured at Cheltenham at the water jump. He was very very brave to finish third. I watched Azer being put into the horse box that night and he could hardly move he was so stiff.
He should have NEVER run at Sandown. Never Ever!
March 19, 2007 at 14:38 #47218Sorry to be pedantic, but I’m pretty sure that Martin Pipe won the Championship anyway with the win of Well CHief in the same race. So not only was a Champion retired, it didn’t even help Nicholls in his crazy race to beat Pipe, both of whom were guilty of horsey cruelty in those last few days imho. Shameful behaviour…
March 19, 2007 at 17:25 #47219Out of interest would anyone like to try and make a case justifying the running of Azertyioup at Sandown?
March 19, 2007 at 17:31 #47220No
Much as i admire Nichols, this was his worst moment. And perhaps even Pipes
They became ridiculously obsessed with winning a "championship" the value of which is overstaed IMO
Im sure that Nichols has (and i think Pipe too) admitted that this poor stuff
March 19, 2007 at 17:39 #47221First and foremost, I’m glad to hear he’s OK. His rivalry with Moscow Flyer is as good a one as I’ve seen in my 20 years, especially the 2004 Tingle Creek, what a race!
I’m afraid, Clivex, that running him that day at Sandown is almost impossible to justify. I still remember the ’05 Queen Mum, he just about killed himself at the water, he’d have been straight into the fields after that race, and returning the following season. He obviously wasn’t right at Sandown, and what makes it worse is that chances are Nicholls probably had to justify running him to the owners.
March 19, 2007 at 17:54 #47222Agree on both points Friggo
Nichols let the personal (his dislike of pipe of course) take over the professional. You simply cannot do that.
March 19, 2007 at 18:12 #47223he had to justify it to one of his owners the other didnt want him to run!!!! you are all right he should have been in the field he was a tired horse who had had a number of hard races that year and he had no more to give it was only his class and his heart that got him within 4 lengths of well chief…………

Amen, as it was only his class and heart that got him within 4 lengths of winning the King George too!
March 19, 2007 at 21:12 #47225Not quite on topic, I know, but I seem to remember Well Chief drifting markedly in the betting on the day of the Sandown race, as rumours were awash that he had been confined to his box beforehand for a few days, and had therefore missed some work sessions.
March 19, 2007 at 23:07 #47226
I was gutted that Azertyuiop’s career was ended prematurely but in the press prior to the Sandown race it was stated that he was working brilliantly at home.
The owner can’t have objected or else he wouldn’t have the likes of Noland, Granit Jack & Neptune Collonges with the same trainer.
I didn’t see him close up when I was at Cheltenham last Wednesday but it was great to see him, Moscow Flyer & Well Chief together again!
March 20, 2007 at 07:40 #47227yes it was fantastic to see them all again i infact look after az and also took him chelt that day,az n moscow had pics taken together which i hope to post……..noland is infact also been of this season due to injury!!!!!!!there are yes as stated other good horses with the same owner, but yes im sure the owner’s of az will never forget what happened for this star to end in hight of his great carear…..
March 20, 2007 at 09:30 #47228He had a great, but short career and it didn’t end on a high as you say.
I hope Azertyuiop enjoys a very long retirement.
