Coral are stand out on
Our Vic – Paddy Power – 9/2 (4/1 general)
Beef Or Salmon – Gold Cup – 14/1 (10/1 general)
5/2 Moscow Flyer will soon turn into 9/4 / 2/1
November 5, 2004 at 13:57 #94375TDK – How do you know that?
Just to correct what I said above – Our Vic is a best priced 7/2 now and thats with Victor Chandler. Been well suported. Any big bets on him TDK?
December 4, 2004 at 14:57 #94377In the words of a much-loved Irish TV character, ‘Go on, ye good thing!’ ;)
December 4, 2004 at 15:05 #94380Presumably, after the race, Mac said "Corals had him at 5-2. THEY DIDN’T KNOW!"
December 4, 2004 at 15:06 #94382:biggrin: ah sure, grasshopper, ye might as well get a kick out of these ones!

December 4, 2004 at 15:26 #94390Fair play, tdk, theres always March – another four months might erode the difference between them!
December 4, 2004 at 15:57 #94394Bloody hell!!! Absolutely knackered, was never so sick in a race!!! I knew Moscow at his best is better than Azerti, I just didn’t know he was still at his best.
Full credit to Jessie, she fully deserves the credit she will get for a marvellous (champion like) campaign. A wonderful trainer and person.
Credit also to Azerti and his connections, someone had to loose but he ran straight to the line.
Not too many years ago we all complained about how weak the 2 mile chasing division was. I can honestly say I felt privileged to watch 3 superb 2mile chases of any era.
December 4, 2004 at 16:38 #94396Quote: from Ian Davies on 3:10 pm on Dec. 4, 2004[br]Given their respective official ratings going into this race were 177 and 157, I’m not sure if Azertyioup ran below his best or Well Chief improved, or a combination of both
But either way it was a tremendous horserace – much more interesting than anything that’s going on in the staying division right now – and a superb effort by the winner.
Think Well Chief improved IMO as it’s not often an Arkle winner keeps the mid/high 150’s rating the season after he wins it generally goes up though i think Azerty may have been a bit below the 177 of his OR
December 4, 2004 at 17:10 #943972004 2 miles 3m 52.20 (slow 0.20) g/s good in plcs
2003 2 miles 3m 55.80 (slow 3.80) good
is MOSCOW FLYER getting faster????
December 4, 2004 at 17:13 #94399I hope so Empty.
Moscow is a seriously underated horse. As a hurdler he beat the Mighty Istabraq and if it had not have been for the foot and mouth could easily have gone on to become champion hurdler that year.
Pure class.
Well done Moscow.
December 4, 2004 at 18:28 #94401Moscow Flyer has run right up to his best RPR of 176, judging by the way the race was run- at a decent gallop all the way. The time was good, but nothing out of the ordinary for a race of this class on good ground, which had probably dried out a bit from yesterday. That puts Azertyuiop, who ran very well with no apparent excuses 2lb lower on 174, short of his best RPR mark of 179. The fly in the ointment is Well Chief who came into the race on 163, so either he has improved by nearly a stone(which is feasible given his age, only five), or you have to hold the form down if you cannot accept this improvement. IMO, I think he’s improved. It will be interesting to see if the RP handicapper agrees, but only time will really tell.
December 4, 2004 at 20:48 #94402Not convinced by the form yet, although I’ve not looked at it thoroghly. Firstly, the Racing Post Rating shouldn’t be any higher than 176. If the RP handicapper comes up with a higher rating, he needs to consider – is this really the best race Moscow Flyer has ever run?
Moscow Flyer has run well and his stamina was impressive. Certainly stronger than Azertyuiop who didn’t look particularly comfortable to me from some way out. When Azertyuiop wins, over fences, he does it clearly. No messing with a half-length here or there, the shortest he’s won by is 5-lengths (at Exeter this season).
If Moscow Flyer is fit at Cheltenham, I would favour him over Azertyuiop on the run-in. Makes me wonder whether they should go for the lead earlier in the race, try to beat the others before the run-in.
Well Chief ran a good race but I don’t know by how much he improved. I’m not convinced Sandown is the ideal track for him but he’s run very closely to two Champion Chase winners. Martin Pipe will probably want to win with him before the Champion Chase and I think he’d have a good chance in March.
Stamina was important today I think with Moscow Flyer having more of it than Azertyuiop. Well Chief could probably win over further but I think lacked a bit of experience today.
I’m not certain what ratings I would give yet but a 174 for Moscow Flyer might be right.
Rob.
December 4, 2004 at 20:54 #94403Actually I’ve got Moscow Flyer running to 175. Who cares? We saw two great racehorses today and one that has plenty of potential to be great too. 174,175,176,177,178 yawn.
December 4, 2004 at 21:09 #94404I’d agree with David’s last two comments regarding this race Firstly, Hales utterances after the race didn’t befit the occasion and secondly, whatever rating Moscow ran to is immaterial.
Like an Olympic track final, today was about winning not about busting the clock and the Moscow team got it right with, IMO, a large helping hand from the other Nicholl’s runner.
The fact still remains that we have yet to see another horse get the better of Moscow Flyer at the finish of a chase. He’s a real champion.
December 4, 2004 at 21:17 #94406I always think the best jumper wins at Sandown, those railway fences are a great leveller.
Great race !!
